> 3 dayWhat a hassle! Usually this is happens with non original cartridges. I spent quite a bit of compressed air and time cleaning up this mess and then I changed it out for one I bought as a backup. When I finally got around to calling Brother Customer Service they told me it was one day past the 90 day warranty and I was out of luck! I asked for a manager and was put on hold for 20 minutes. I feel bad for Brother, they must really be hurting for cash… (e_e) EDIT: I called back a few times and found a different agent with a different attitude. They were willing to send me a replacement cartridge. Thats the proper response… you win three additional stars.

> 3 dayPrints come out with various smudges, especially the first page(s) printed after the printer hasnt been used for a few hours. After calling Brother technical support, they ran me through the whole drum cleaning process (on a new printer, mind you) and it seemed to be better. That didnt last long. I have owned other Brother laser printers with no problems and wish my old one hadnt given up the ghost. Maybe I got a bad unit, but the return period has expired for me to exchanging it, and I am very disappointed.

19-04-2025Ive had this printer for a couple of years and mostly I really like it EXCEPT it would periodically go into deep sleep and then we couldnt wake it up. This would totally have been a dealbreaker if I hadnt missed the return window for various reasons too boring to list, and I have been annoyed with it ever since. I recently helped my dad purchase a newer version of this printer specifically because on the reviews for it some wonderful woman had posted the directions to get it out of deep sleep. Unfortunately the sequence didnt work for this model, and Brother tech support were worse than useless, but after searching the internet far and wide, my 13 year old and I found the solution. Here you go: Scroll with up down arrows and go to GENERAL SETTINGS. Press ok ECOLOGY - press ok SLEEP TIME - press ok. You will see a display that says _MIN (like one or two minutes, this is changeable then press the DOWN arrow and the red CANCEL button at the same time now it should say DEEP SLEEP and you can change the off/on for this with the up down arrows. Choose OFF and press okay. Then use the BACK button to get yourself to the main menu. Power the printer off and on again and you will not suffer from Deep Sleep mode again! Hurrah!

> 3 dayPrinter creases first 4 or 5 sheets of a print job. Returned printer and replacement did the same thing. Returned replacement for a refund.

> 3 dayThe printer is as fast and reliable as other Brother printers Ive had. But it took me almost 10 hours over two days to get it working right. and $25.00 for online help to get this working with my Mac and my husbands PC. Brothers online chat help wasnt working that day. Installation of the software seemed to go smoothly but we still couldnt print. Turns out we both had to download and install new printer driver software -- and get rid of the old software -- before it finally started working. Nowhere does Brothers Support site or information hint that you might need to do this.

> 3 dayI bought one in April 2017. The printer started smearing bar codes and bold font after 7 months. Customer service told me to clean it and when that didnt work, they said the drum and toner were only warrantied for 90 days. A replacement drum is $116. A drum should last more than 7 months.

> 3 dayI have had this printer for about 60 days now and I have had continuous toner leakage on my paper output. I have several case numbers with Brother customer service trying to resolve this issue but all they want to do is replace the toner cartridges. Now I can understand a defective toner cartridge, but Brother sent me a new cartridge right from their factory and the problem got worse. My thinking is either the drum or the machine is defective but the latest info I have is that they are still looking at the toner cartridges being defective. So each time I have to call Brother customer service I waste 1 to 1.5 hours of my time trying to figure this issue out. In order not to waste any more time on the problem I asked Amazon if they would take the machine back and they were very helpful with a return.
