Purchased this vacuum looking for a premium product that would do the job well, have good reliability and in situations where there were issues, would have a good support team backing it up. Because after all, this is the premium option right? Unfortunately, this was not the case. The product lasted ~4 months with fairly minimal use and regular cleaning before the trigger began having issues. The product would turn on when you pull the trigger, but upon release, it would continue to run for 30 seconds to a minute before finally turning off the motor. We worked around it for a few days thinking it was just a bug or an issue but it continued this behavior. I was actually excited to contact Dyson because typically when dealing with a premium product like this, the customer service is top notch. Unfortunately again, this was not the case. The chat feature on their website would not work. It would take you through a script before asking you a question that would just error out. I ended up calling their support line where I had to jump through menus before finally getting to talk to someone where the immediate vibe was not how can we help but instead what do you want. I went through the issues with the representative where they informed me, that before they could do anything to even answer my questions, they needed to register me in their system. Fine, not a big deal. I went through the process of tracking down the serial number on my vacuum, communicating that to them over the phone, and telling them my information multiple times, only to be told that the product was already registered under a different name. I asked them how this could happen, and was told that the only way this could happen is if I was sold an open box product, which I will address later in this review. I told the representative that I had purchased it brand new from Amazon and that I would be happy to send them a PDF copy of the invoice from my original purchase (even though I dont think I should have to jump through this hoop for them to just make their $700 vacuum work as expected). The representative basically just said tough luck. If we cant register your product we will not answer any questions, you cannot speak to a support rep, nothing. I asked them what my options were and they said There is nothing we can do for you, you need to contact Amazon and have them replace the product. That was the end of my Dyson experience, I had already made up my mind that I would not be exchanging the product as I have no interest in ever owning another Dyson product if that is the level of their support. Now to Amazon ... I immediately went back and confirmed the listing that it was fulfilled and sold by Amazon (it was) and that the condition of the product was listed as New (it was) to make sure I hadnt made a mistake when ordering. Once I had confirmed this, I called Amazon to make the issue right. To their credit, they were willing to give me a refund, but told me that I was responsible for returning the product. I had to go purchase a box, pack it, and send it to them, even though the entire issue was their fault for sending me an open box product they had listed as new.

Ive never had a cordless vacuum before. Ive had a corded Dyson for several years, and it was time to get a new one. I did my research, and landed on the V11 Animal. There are other versions of the V11 that just have more attachments, but I know Im only going to use 2 or 3 of them, anyway, so this one was perfect. Im impressed how long the battery lasts. I almost bought the V11 Outsize, because of it having 2 batteries, but I figured that the area I need to vacuum wasnt that big, and one battery would probably work just fine. I was right. Im vacuuming about 1800 sq ft, with a mix of tile and carpet, and the battery indicator didnt even go down. There are 3 bars of battery life. I figured it would at least go down to 2 by the time I had finished, but all 3 were still lit. I do have more tile than carpet, and on auto mode, it does automatically use lower power for the tile and higher power for the carpet, and the couch. This thing is great. I was a bit worried that the smaller head was going to be a problem, where Id have to make more passes to cover the same area as my old corded vacuum, but its fine. In fact, because the head is not so wide, I can vacuum places under furniture, etc. that I couldnt reach before without switching to one of the attachments. All in all, this is a great machine. Ive been really impressed with Dysons technology.

I am a Dyson Animal loyalist. This is my first cordless Dyson, and Ive had it for about two months now. I use it multiple times a day (I have a Siberian Husky...nuff said) and I maintain the vacuum exactly as directed. Its awesome, and yet there are some major issues with it. I have to give it four stars, but honestly, my other Dyson was much better. Heres my list of pros and cons: 1. Its a Dyson Animal! Dyson Animals are essential to pet owners. The amount of hair this thing picks up from my hardwood floors and carpet is amazing. No other vacuum even comes close. 2. Its very easy to empty the canister and to clean/maintain this vacuum and the filter. 3. It holds a charge for a really long time, considering that its a cordless vacuum. 4. It doesnt come with a ton of attachments, but the ones it does come with are practical and I use them frequently. You can also order additional attachments if you need them. CONS 1. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is absolutely RIDICULOUS that there is no on/off button. The vacuum is on for only as long as you press your finger against the on switch. Dyson claims this helps conserve battery life. I say, that is total BS. My finger gets pretty sore after Ive been vacuuming for 15+ minutes and pressing the stupid button down for the whole time. I paid nearly $600 for this machine and should get a freaking on/off button, for gods sake. 2. While the vacuum is easy to empty, I wish it held just a tad more stuff in the canister. Also, I always accidentally press and hold the on/off switch when trying to empty the vacuum canister, which is super annoying. 3. Theres no headlight on this vacuum. Again, a pretty basic feature that one would expect when spending close to $600. Thats pretty much it. I still am glad I bought this, as I cannot imagine my dog hair-infested life without it, but seriously, for this price, I expected a bit more. Dyson, you could do so much better.

My 17 year old Sears canister finally gave up so I went vacuum shopping. I went to the appliance store to look at options. They had Miele which I knew has a good reputation. But the salesman told me not to buy it - that the Dyson Animal was better - that he had two of them. And they didnt sell Dyson. I then researched various styles of vacuum. The stick vacs seemed best for ease of use, but I was worried about suction and time of use between charges. I finally concluded a stick vac would suit me. Of those the Dysons seemed best. After reading the specs, I decided the Animal would do the job but splurged on the Torque Drive for the nicer UI and extra tool. Ive had it for a couple of months now, and am very pleased. First thing I did was my carpeted stairs, that hadnt been done thoroughly for ages. It did a great job, though I had to empty it several times in the process. The small beater brush tool was great for this. The battery life has proven to be more than enough for my needs. I dont think the suction is as good as a plug-in canister machine. But it is good enough. My conclusion is that convenience wins - that the machine I use beats the more powerful one I dont use! Small complaints: The transparent dust bin always looks dirty, even right after emptying; While there is storage for two spare tools on the long tube, and storage for more on the wall hanging bracket, there is one extra tool for which there is no storage space. (I think this is only with the Torque Drive which has an extra tool the Animal doesnt have.)

I have only had the vacuum a few days and I absolutely love it. It has strong suction and different ranges of suction so if I want a suction boost I can get it, but the regular suction is strong. I love that it gets around my chair legs because of its maneuverability. Amazing maneuverability. You can stand in one place and get around all the chair legs without having to move around to each side like you would with a regular vacuum cleaner. It gets under my kitchen cupboards where my old vacuum didnt fit. With my regular vacuum I had to stop and install a flexible hose and keep pulling the vacuum around to use the short hose that was attached which is awkward. I can go from carpet to floors and it automatically adjusts. The tools are fantastic! Any changing of tools is quick and easy, much easier and quicker than a regular vacuum and there are many more tools. I feel like I am getting all my vacuuming done faster from living room to kitchen to stairs and the special cleaning such as under the kitchen cupboards, under dining room chairs, tables, stairs, blinds, shelves, upholstered furniture, door tracks, around the dryer, etc. I would have skipped alot of that with my old vacuum because it was too time consuming and inconvenient. The handheld option makes alot of those jobs so much easier than trying to pull a vacuum around so you can use the flexible hose. There are many tools that come with the vacuum that are so useful. The vacuum is lightweight so it is great for stairs and much quieter than my old vacuum. I have never run out of power before I have finished vacuuming. It is hot here because it is summer and the motor puts off a light breeze and cools me off while I am vacuuming. I like the LCD screen which shows how much power I have used and how much I have left. It also lets you know how much power you have for the level of suction you choose. If you use the Power boost for all your vacuuming you would run out of power a little earlier than if you use the regular or eco suction but I have never had to. It charges within a few hours so it is always ready to use. I am so happy I made this purchase! It is a great vacuum. It is expensive. That is the only slight negative I can think of.

I named my Dyson Chewvacca because Its burly, meant to last, and a great addition to any spaceship. The only challenge Im having so far is that it takes an inordinate amount of time to charge as opposed to the runtime. From there another inconvenience would include its general weight and the fact that theres no trigger lock, so I know you only have to touch the trigger very lightly, but your inclination is to pull it down as hard as you can. Id say this is a safety feature that customers probably dont like but is likely necessary for its functionality.

We bought this vacuum three years ago and we enjoyed the convenience factor. It’s light weight. No cords. We found ourselves vacuuming more frequently simply because it was so much easier. That was the entire point of buying it. Stairs were a dream. But like so many others have pointed out, the trigger mechanism eventually broke. And the design appears to almost intentionally make it incredibly difficult to replace such a simple mechanism. The average person absolutely will not own the tools required to completely disassemble the motor, the vortex mechanism, and the trigger assembly. Every time you think you might be getting close, yet another set of screws, some requiring a t8 screwdriver and one requiring a nonstandard 6 inch long extension awaits. For such a great vacuum, I expect longer than 3 years use before encountering such a pain of a fix… in over 30 years of vacuums, I’ve never encountered such a basic failure so early in a vacuum’s life. So, it’s great while it lasts but you may not have a particularly long relationship with it before the pain begins.

This is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned, and I have had an Electrolux and Shark. It is so lightweight that I can just walk with it from room to room; and being cordless, I dont have to worry with plugging it in and dragging the cord around. I am very, VERY pleased with this purchase! Came fairly quickly, too.

I bought this to see if I liked it enough to keep it, and in the end I did keep it, but here are the things I learned. First, my house is 2700 square feet with lots of steps. It’s also about 50% carpet and the other half hard wood or tile. I did most of the house in one full charge. I usually do half the house at a time anyway so the battery life is great. It took about 50 minutes for it to die (again doing carpets) so I’ve felt like the battery lasts as long if not longer than advertised. Also, I have 2 dogs so pet hair is everywhere. It works well to get the hair out of the carpet. We’ve only ever had cheaper dirt devils before so I don’t have much to compare to, but the suction was fine. I wasn’t blown away by it but have not noticed a difference which is impressive for a cordless vacuum. I saw a few people comment on the weight of it and it tiring out your forearms. I noticed the same thing especially while doing stairs. But it works great for stairs overall. The end is significantly smaller than most vacuums so doing a large living room takes a lot longer and feels sort of annoying. For me this is a worthwhile trade since I can get under and around more things now. One annoying piece is the stand that hangs on the wall. It has two spots to hang attachments and then there is a piece that clips to the vacuum for two attachments. It comes with 4 attachments but the stairs attachment doesn’t fit on either one so it has to be stored separately. Would be great if they could design a way to clip that in as well. I also read someone else’s review saying this rips off the wall. I screwed to a stud to be safe so it may be worth thinking about that when installing. Larger anchors could fix that as well if you don’t have a stud where you want this. Lastly the price...I’m keeping it so I guess that means I think it’s worth it. But I really am annoyed it costs so much. That is the biggest thing that keeps me from recommending it because I know a lot of people that just can’t afford to pay that much for a vacuum.
