When you install your 4x4x8 legs, the inside edges of the 4x4s that touch at the top (as extended inside the bracket) form an isosceles triangle with long side 95 7/8 and short side 74 7/16 (so in that triangle plane, the legs have an angle of approx. 22.8 degrees from the middle of the triangle) The other angle (which extends over the long length of the assembled swing) is approx. 14.5 degrees from vertical. The net result of this is that you make 4 marks on each of the lines that form the corners of your 4x4. The outer corner you leave (the existing corner is the mark). The inner corner, make a mark 2.5 from the bottom. The corner that is inside-long-way/outside-short-way, make a mark 1 from the bottom. The corner that is outside-long-way/inside-short-way, make a mark 1.5 from the bottom. Now join up these 4 points with lines. These lines form a plane, and you can cut the plane with a sawzall with a long blade. The legs will now sit flat on the ground.

If you follow the instruction and purchase the correct lumber you’ll have a very sturdy swing-set frame in 20 minutes.

Used a sledge hammer and a block of wood to drive the brackets on to the 4 x 6 top piece but Id rather a snug fit. 4 x 4 legs slid in easily. I did add a 2 x 6 brace between the legs for a true A frame. Using pressure treated wood be ready for a heavy lift to get it upright and moved in to place. Im very happy with the quality and the end result. The only thing is where Amazon advertises that this is from a small business brand. Support small. When I got the box it says Made in China. Must be a small China business.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with these brackets! We now have an awesome double swing set for just over $200, all in. However, there are a few things people should know - 1) The 4”x6” beam will not fit into the bracket, without some work. I used an old school wood hand plane to shave the sides and edges, until the bracket fit, using a rubber mallet. Not easy. The 4”x4”’s slide in, no problem. 2) The recommended 4”x4” leg length is 8’. Unless you have small children, go longer. I used 10’ 4”x4”’s, which put the crossbeam at 9’ high, when fully constructed; the higher the pivot point of a swing, the more fun it is “for the kids”! Also, on this point, the chains for a standard 66” chain swing will need to be extended a little, to your preference and need. I just added one locking carabiner to each chain. 3) Space the swings out to avoid collisions. I wanted a double swing for my two boys, so I went with a 10’ crossbeam. The swings are 24” apart, with 24” between the chains. There’s ample distance remaining between each swing and the frame. The distance between the chains can be narrower, but I wanted the swings to be more comfortable and less “pinchy” than others I’ve used. 4) Anchor that thing down! I drilled 1/2” holes at an angle, about 4” up from the bottom of each leg, then pounded a 3’ length of 1/2” rebar through each, until flush. Safe finish for toes/ankles and that thing isn’t moving one bit, even when adults are swinging at full height. 5) A few other tips - a) Sand and stain/paint the lumber before constructing it. b) Use heavy duty, rust proof, swing hardware if you want it to last; lots of good options on Amazon. c) Construct the crossbeam first, brackets and swing hardware, before attaching the legs. d) Get a ladder and another adult or two to help tip it upright. I climbed a ladder with the crossbeam, raising it over my head, while my wife and son pulled the legs to the ground. Be careful! Have fun!

I looked at many different swing set kits and all had many bad reviews. Things like pieces missing, to holes mis-drilled, to cracked lumber and even broken materials. I found these brackets from Eastern Jungle and I bought them, a couple of swings and some very sturdy, treated lumber (4 X 4 & 2 X 6) and built my own swing set. It currently only have two swings, but our daughter is only 2, so thats all she needs at the moment. I will add a slide later this summer. I will also be sanding the wood to make it smooth to prevent from splinters, and I will paint the wood to help protect it from weathering. The brackets come with the bolts and washers needed for assembly. I used a rachet and socket, but an impact gun or drill would have made the assembly go much faster. If you are looking for a swing set for a young child, you should consider building something like this instead of spending money on a kit that has thin, cracked wood. UPDATE: JUNE 2022. I added the slide and built a platform and steps. I also put a top on the playhouse portion. The swings, slide, brackets, the red, yellow, & green tarp, and the swivel anchors for the swings all came from Amazon. After sanding the wood, I painted the entire set with a good quality exterior paint.

These Eastern Jungle Gym swing brackets are absolutely fantastic for $80. All the hardware you need is included to make the A frame. Brackets, bolts and washers. Add 4 4x4x8s and one 4x6x (8,10 or 12) and youre done. Many folks mention that a 4x6 beam is too big and they either shave it down somewhat to get it to fit, or use 2 2x6 glued and screwed. I found that the 2x6 plan needed a spacer to fill out the rest of the bracket space. It would probably have been plenty strong enough. I decided on a 4x6 by 8 beam and these as the less expensive ones did not have enough of the bracket on the beam for my liking. For $10 more I went with the longer ones. What I did was I took one bracket to the lumber yard with me, and tested it for fit on the 4x6 and 4x4s I was going to purchase. I only picked the ones that the bracket fit over easily so as to minimize any shaving or sanding. This was usually the drier pressure treated wood, but they all fit perfectly and made assembly a breeze. Also it took a few iterations of cutting to figure out the correct compound angle for level feet. Ive added a pic or two of my low-tech compound saw settings.

This is the way to go! We love it. Much cheaper than buying the whole wooden swing set, that does not fit our needs. We set it up using 4X4 x8ft long legs, 4X6 x 10 ft long beam. The wood is the red treated wood from Home Depot. Cost $81. We are military so we move a lot, the movers will be able to take this apart and put back together at our new duty stations. It has strong hardware, easy to put together. You just add the swings you want.(we have 3 things on there so far) Ours is tall , just in case we have to saw off some of the legs after taking it apart a few times. Not being able to use the same drill holes in the wood. As our child grows up, we will put a wooden swing for two on it and a hamack swing. There is room for all of that.

I read all of the reviews and some of the reviews said that the standard 4X4’s did not fit. But I decided to give it a try anyway. I bought my lumber from Home Depot. Prior to installation, I did use a grinding wheel attachment for a standard drill to grind down (1) the ever so slight lip where the metal was welded and (2) the heads from the rivets that were used to attach the company name to the product. I wanted to eliminate any chance of the 4X4 or 4X6 beams getting stuck halfway into the slot. The end result was that the beams slid into all six slots with no problem. My two boys and I had the swing set built in three hours, and that included buying the lumber, calculating the length of the legs on the downslope of the lawn, cutting the legs to length, adding a 2X4 cross support to the legs and hammering in 18” steel concrete framing rods to make 100% sure the legs never lift up off of the ground. And I loved how the legs were angled back from the top rail, providing addition suppor to the structure. The brackets worked great. I recommend them 100%.

Had to sand 4x6x12 down to fit brackets, but overall, a good product.
