Hermit crab didnt like the sand. It climbed on top of coconut shell and rarely went into this sand.

If you love your hermit crabs please do NOT buy this!!!!!!! Whenever this sand or whatever it is gets wet it turns as hard as concrete and it can trap your crabs whenever they molt, and after a few weeks it has a very nasty smell to it. If you love your crabs and want to take care of them the right way please do not buy this or the hermit crab food pellets. Hermit crabs require a 5 to 1 ratio. 5 parts PLAY SAND and 1 part Eco Earth. Make sure your tank is sealed, you can even use press n seal over the lid to help with humidity. But please do not buy this sand and you cannot always listen to Google and pet stores. Hermit crab sand

My 10 gal tank had about 4 of a sand/fiber substrate to begin with and I needed to make it about 6 or more. In order to add those 2 found I needed 3 bags of this sand mixturel. With Prime Free Shipping, the price for this all-in-one produce was well worth it. I was a bit surprised to find that the Sand Substrate mixture was properly moistened when it arrived. I did not have to add any water to it to bring it to the build a sand castle stage. Adding it to my tank was easy as well. I removed all of the items from my tank (including Aloysius my hermit crab), mixed it into the sand already in the tank and then put everything back! Easy as could be. An added bonus was exercise for Allie. Even though items went back into the same position, he still felt it necessary to visit each piece and climb over and around several times!

My Hermit crabs seem to really enjoy this. However we are moving them to a 55 gallon tank and I will be needing to use this for just the top layer or Ill need to take a second mortgage out on the house to fill it with this.
