Greater than one weekI used this to power up string lights in the pool area. We already had a couple of the wall plugs and theyve worked well. The Kasa app is simple and easy to use. Wifi setup is about as painless as it gets with your phone app. Setting schedules is much easier than the Lifx app, and overall Kasa is better at making it simple. I dont have any color lights, so cant comment there. Ive got this plug and an interior wall plug on schedules. Both come on at sunset and are timed to go off at different times. The sunset/sunrise adjusts on its own with internet data and is accurate. You can set this to come on with a delay, or just set it to a specific time. This is also dimmable. I didnt know if the string lights were, but this plug handles it no problem. You set your percentage of brightness and it stays that way. If you schedule, setting them up to fade in and out is also available. It can be a fast or slow fade, too. The plug itself isnt much different than any heavy duty extension. The cable and housing are rugged. This would be perfect for Christmas lights, yard lights, or anything else you want on a timer or just the ability to power on/off with your phone. Also works with Google Home / Assistant. Tell it to shut off the lights and everything is out. Nice product.

> 3 dayI have been using Kasa smart plugs inside my house for a couple of years now, and have found them to be quite satisfactory for the price, so when I wanted to expand the system to include my deck lights, a Kasa Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug was the logical choice since it uses my existing Kasa/Google ecosystem. For reasons I don’t fully understand, getting this smart plug set up and running on my wi-fi network was a little more complicated than with the indoor smart plugs. For whatever reason, it would not go into setup mode when plugged in on the deck, where it would ultimately reside. After several tries, I moved it first to the kitchen and then to the living room, where my wi-fi router is located, before I was able to successfully complete the setup and then move it to the deck, plug it in out there and connect the lights. The network now recognizes and communicates with on the deck it just fine. Once it was fully registered on the Kasa app, it took just a few seconds to also register it on my Google Home app, giving me voice control via my Google Nest speakers as well as control from my smart phone. The best part of all is finally being able to turn my deck lights on and off remotely and without having to fumble with the plug in the dark—or even go outside. The smart plug has only just been installed so time will tell how well it holds up to the elements.

Greater than one weekI ordered 2 plugs which I received and installed yesterday. This review is on the setup process. I may add more later after some experience in use. The plugs had little documentation other than to download the app and follow instructions. That was enough though. With the app running, you plug in the device, connect to the wifi network the device has started, find your wifi network and log in. I had to type in my wifi password to the app for the first setup but the app remembered it for the 2nd. My plugs control lights in 2 sections of my garden, and I needed to program on/off times. The app interface was so much easier than the boxes I have used in the past. There are settings for dimming levels that I have not yet explored. I was pleased that I was able to plug each one in in my home, program it, unplug it, take it outside and plug it in, and the programming was not lost. Much easier to program in the comfort of my home rather than standing in the flower bed swatting off the mosquitoes. Update After we lost power due to Hurricane Ian, my 3rd timer failed and I bought another plug. I was concerned that this one may not work because all the wiring was in a metal enclosure which Wi-Fi could not penetrate. The plug worked. Though outside it is about 60 feet from my router. A nice thing with all my garden lights on the same plug is they all turn on at the same time. When I had 3 independent timers they came on one at a time over a 10 minute period.

Greater than one weekSo far (only a week old) I LOVE this product! I’m using it to control a string of MARKET lights that I just installed and it’s been working flawlessly and the app to control things is very easy to understand. It dims my lights efficiently, and I have fallen in love with the timer, allowing me to start the illumination and end of the illumination whenever I care whether it’s minutes or hours.

> 3 dayI have about 400 watts of outdoor lights. The plug has built in overheating protection, which is great; however at 100% brightness, our outdoor lights are too much for this plug. We had no issues plugged directly into the outlet. We have to die about 50% for this smart plug. The lights are dimmable incidents. Combined about 400watts full power. If they were LED, this might not be an issue.

> 3 dayI just bought a house with a pool this winter. When I was opening the pool up for the first time, the pool guy recommended I get an electrician to come out and set up some thing to coordinate a schedule, or I will have to either remember to come out twice a day to turn my pool pump on/off or have it running 24/7. Hiring an electrician to set up some new system = $$$ Buying this thingamajig = like $15 SUPER EASY to set up. I set up a schedule on my phone and forgot about it. It does everything it needs to do. The outlet its plugged into is outdoors, and its been going strong with no issues for months. With this heatwave, I want to be perfectly sure my pool is clean and ready for swimming, so I can set up temporary schedules or manually turn it on or off from my phone within seconds, from anywhere. And since I typically dont have my phone with me by the pool, the button allows you to manually control it as well. I dont use Alexa often because the voice-command system kind of creeps me out still (I only ever use it if Im cooking, my hands are dirty, and I need to know like a measurement conversion or something), BUT I tried it out once just to see if it would work and it did. All I can say about that. Im thinking of buying more for outdoor lights.
