> 3 dayWorks fine, easy set up and Alexa integration. I am using this indoors so I cannot comment on its effectiveness in outdoor environments.

> 3 dayI thought these were going to work with he SmartLife app, but ended up only being able to get them to work with the Kasa app, which means that now I have 2 apps I have to use to control the lights. This is not ideal. They otherwise work as expected.

> 3 dayThis is a great product at a great price. Bought this to use for my christmas lights. The Kasa app is very intuitive, and I found it immediately connected to my home WiFi. There is almost no latency when turning on and off with the app via phone. The scheduling tool was easy and did exactly what I want. I use it as a lamp timer while away from home, and for Christmas lights during the holidays. Much easier than the old style light timers!

> 3 dayIve installed two KP401 (switches, for pump timers) and two KP405 dimmers. The two switches have been outside, turning water-feature pump motors on and off. One of them works reasonably well. The other seems to need reprogramming every few weeks. Im going to try replacing the flaky switch with another KP401, but if that fails Im going over to the YoLink. I would have picked the YoLink because it has much better range, but it is 2x as expensive.

31-03-2025Ive installed numerous TP-Link Kasa smart plugs and switches to integrate my home lighting with my Alexa Echos and Show 8 as well as my Ring doorbells and cameras. Im amazed at how well all these different systems work together. I needed an outdoor smart plug to control both some outside Christmas lights as well as a bird bath heater. This Kasa Smart K400 Outdoor Smart Plug works perfectly. Since the two outlets on the plug can be controlled independently, I plugged my heated bird bath into one and my Christmas lights into the other. I especially like the Kasa Android app, which allows you to easily set what time you want the lights to come on and go off. You can also set it to come on at Sunset (or a prescribed number of minutes before or after sunset) (similarly with Sunrise). You can set different times for each day of the week if you want. A very nice and easy to use app. Installation of the Smart Plug was also very straightforward with step-by-step guidance from the app. For my heated bird bath, I set up a routine using the If This Then That (IFTTT) app. I set the heater to turn on if the outside temperature drops below 35 deg F and turn off if the outside temp goes above 35 deg F. One thing to be aware of - the Kasa outlet must not be limited to Local control if you want outside apps such as IFTTT to work with it. For some reason, my outdoor smart plug reverted to local control and there is no obvious way to get out of this state using the app. After researching this on the web, the one solution that seemed to work was to assign the smart plug a reserved DHCP IP address on your home router. I did this and then reset the switch. All works fine now. Bottom line is this is a waterproof outdoor smart outlet that works well, has an easy to use and very flexible controlling app, and integrates nicely into the smart house ecosystem (at least with Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT which are the ones Ive tried). I would gladly buy this again if I need another one.

> 3 dayI first purchased the Meross Outdoor Plug for a hot water recirculating pump that I wanted to control using my phone. Hence, rather than having the pump running 24/7, I could simply turn the recirculating pump on whenever I needed hot water, with the touch of a button on my phone. At first, the Meross worked well, but then would start to intermittently lose the wifi signal, requiring a trip outdoors to where both my water heater and the recirculating pump were located so I could re-establish the wifi connection. This often occurred late at night, in the cold, and became so frequently frustrating, that I decided to try a different plug. Hence, my purchase of the Kasa Smart KP400 plug. It took a few tries to get the smart feature to register (an automatic shut-off after running for five minutes), but the connection to my wifi has been rock solid. I have not had to reset the link once since installation about a month ago. So far, so good. One caveat with the smart features that I had to figure out on my own--the app will show you when (date and time) it was installed, and it uses this information to coordinate with your instructions to the smart feature (e.g., turn on the device at such-and-such a time, on such-and-such days). BEFORE you program your smart features, refresh the date and time of installation, even if the date and time are correct! (There is a button in the app to refresh.) My smart features would not work correctly until I performed this one simple action. Had I known beforehand, it would have saved me hours of trying to figure out why those features did not work. This is the only reason for the four-star rating of the timer function. So far, Im happy with the product. Hope it stays that way!
