This is my third Kasa smart plug and will certainly not be my last. I now have two dual plugs and this single, dimmable, plug. I use them in our back yard to light up our fire pit, on the front porch for Christmas lights and on the deck for controlling the pool pump and other pool resources. These plugs are ultra customizable and fully integrate with Google Home (I do not use Alexa, so I cannot rate that integration). I find it best to customize them in the native Kasa app and then can control them from any of my Google Home apps or devices. The quality of the devices is also top notch and have had no issues with them being outside, fully exposed to the weather.

I had a Smart Home long before the words even existed. My entire house was controlled by a sophisticated programmable multi-channel X10 console so indoor and outdoor lighting went on and off, dimmed, and responded to triggering devices. This was pre-wifi so everything used the houses electrical power lines. These days things are almost exactly the same except now everything is wireless and can be controlled by Alexa or my smartphone from anywhere in the world. When I first jumped aboard the smart plug and switch bandwagon there were only a handful of brand names selling the hardware – Kasa by TP Link, Wemo by Belkin, and Leviton. Their products were similar and pricey and they all shared my number one complaint about the entire product category, that their products would only work using their proprietary smartphone app. If you mixed brands you had to download an app from each company, there wasn’t (and still isn’t) any standardized app that can control any brand smart switch. Then the cheap offshore knockoffs came along and introduced several problems, the biggest of which is that these companies have the life of a fruit fly, they’re here one day and gone the next with no app, no support and no service, meaning that their switches and plugs end up in the garbage. All that being said, I will only buy Kasa plugs and switches. Their app is by far the best and their hardware is well made, versatile and dependable. I am excited about this one, finally a weatherproof outdoor smart plug that is even better than I expected because it has two separate channels. The two plugs are at the end of a short heavy duty grounded power cord that plugs into one outlet. It is designed to hang downward to prevent rain and other weather from touching the switched power plugs. There are two buttons on the switch to give the user local control without using the app. The unit comes with one cable clamp to help keep the plug secured and help prevent it from accidentally being pulled out of the power outlet. This plug, like all Kasa products works seamlessly with Alexa and setup is mostly automatic. From box to fully setup took me about five minutes. In my opinion Kasa is probably the most compatible brand I’ve used with Alexa Echo devices. You might pay a few cents more for a trusted brand name but I think it’s worth it. TP Link has been around for a long time and I’ve always been happy with their products. This outdoor dual smart plug is genius and I highly recommend it.

I used this to power up string lights in the pool area. We already had a couple of the wall plugs and theyve worked well. The Kasa app is simple and easy to use. Wifi setup is about as painless as it gets with your phone app. Setting schedules is much easier than the Lifx app, and overall Kasa is better at making it simple. I dont have any color lights, so cant comment there. Ive got this plug and an interior wall plug on schedules. Both come on at sunset and are timed to go off at different times. The sunset/sunrise adjusts on its own with internet data and is accurate. You can set this to come on with a delay, or just set it to a specific time. This is also dimmable. I didnt know if the string lights were, but this plug handles it no problem. You set your percentage of brightness and it stays that way. If you schedule, setting them up to fade in and out is also available. It can be a fast or slow fade, too. The plug itself isnt much different than any heavy duty extension. The cable and housing are rugged. This would be perfect for Christmas lights, yard lights, or anything else you want on a timer or just the ability to power on/off with your phone. Also works with Google Home / Assistant. Tell it to shut off the lights and everything is out. Nice product.

We wanted a wifi enabled plug to use in an unheated hen house which is about 50 behind our house and on the opposite side of the house from the router, so about 70 away. This plug works flawlessly. I set it to turn a light on at 5:30 am and off at 8:30 am, and it does just that. I can control it from my phone, using the Kasa app. We just purchased a 2nd one to control the heater in our greenhouse. It was too far from the house for the Feit smartplug which would frequently go offline. This Kasa plug works flawlessly, so if the temperature outside drops lower than expected, I can turn the heater (plugged into the Kasa plug) on from inside the house. Highly recommend this plug!

I use these to control my low voltage yard lights and seasonal Christmas lights. I really like the turn on 15 minutes before sunset feature. It turns the lights on before it gets dark no matter what time of year it is. Beats having to readjust mechanical timer pins as the length of days change. I have had these for over a year and have had no problems. I keep them in a waterproof sockit box so I cant attest to how waterproof they are. I also like the alexa integration feature.

I bought this device to control a string of outdoor lights on my balcony. While it was a little tricky to set up the app, it did not take that long. The app works very well, and my lights are on a schedule that I created in a few seconds. I can also press a button that turns them instantly on or off. Very satisfied. Highly recommend and would buy again.
