If you want to know what the moisture content of your wood is this is not the correct tool. Its accuracy is +-4% so if it reads 8% on the meter your wood could be as high as 12% or as low as 4% and thats a substantial change. It also changes its measurement if your hand is near it or not. Just testing this I saw a reading of 7.1% on construction lumber (seems crazy low) go up to 8.9% if I put my entire hand over it. Thats a measurement increase of 25.3%! If you has position has the potential to swing your reading by 25% this doesnt seem like its even remotely accurate.

So I waited 10 months to give this product a review. I work as a home inspector and I use this device almost everyday. My one and only complaint is how easy this thing powers on while in my tool pouch. I wish there was a way to protect the power button or perhaps a double push of the power button. Other then that I have had zero issues. I like the size of the readings. I photograph moisture readings and the size is great, and shows up well on pictures.

Great for checking water/moisture under hardwood flooring that is 3/4 inches thick. The screen is easy to read.

They made a very easy to use, reliable moisture meter. I am a hobby wood worker that needs to know moister content of varying thickness of hardwood and softwood and this worked great. The user interface is great. This is recommended over the “pin” type meters because it reads deeper and doesn’t make holes in the wood. Just be sure when using thinner boards to not stack them on other boards or materials as this can throw the reading off.

I use it for my Handyman projects and have great accurate results.

Bought this tool after the Texas Winter Storm in Feb 2021 that caused a burst pipe and flooding in the storage room below. With most plumbers booked until mid May, this tool helped me figure out which part of drywall was wet. Then I removed the drywall and used it to check the stud bays and sheathing. Sometimes on the surface, the material feels dry, but this device is able to distinguish the ones with higher %MC. Would highly recommend for DIYer or anyone trying to check for a leak behind walls. The battery isnt too great and lasted for about 4 hours of total usage (10 mins of checking per day over 3 weeks). IDK what the right expectation should be though

The detector works great for masonry and sheet-rock. Its great that it is non-destructive.

Update: numbers began fluctuating and I went to return the item but accidentally sent a $400 Wagner Orion meter instead. Klein accepted the item that wasnt theirs and refunded me $40. Now Im trying to deal with Amazon to get this sorted out and get my refund corrected for the other$360. I compared this meters results to the flir meter used by my remediation guy. The numbers were very close. Now I have a meter that will show me when the dehumidifiers and fans have done their jobs. A point off because it doesnt have as many material types that others do. Will come back if anything goes wrong.

I should have made this purchase a long time ago. I like to work with wood from my property whenever I can. There is something cool about milling it on the bandsaw and creating something with it. But it takes wood a long time to dry out and I find myself getting impatient which can lead to problems. This tool forces me to wait longer when necessary and allows me to get working with wood when the moisture content is down. I prefer the pinless - but also couldnt tell you for sure how the two would compare in accuracy. Great addition to the shop.

5 stars because the price was great especially considering It’s made by Klein tools. I loveee my Klein tools, and I own a lot of them. Functionality & features are so easy and nothing confusing or unnecessary about it. Looks great. Seems consistent with the readings it gives ( testing the same area multiple times for instance, you’ll get the same reading, and some might say well duh..but sh!tty tools give likewise Consistency. I can’t tell you how accurate it is, because I only know What’s the tools reads to me, but this style of meter is supposed pretty darn accurate, and I have no reason to believe it’s not. I love the scale it shows, from green to yellow, orange and then red Which All have corresponding percentage values, when it hits red, it gives an audible beep alert. You can pause the reading I believe. I was surprised at how light it was, I usually like all my tools to feel solid and durable but it didn’t bother me. It’s made of strong plastic or nylon, and I’m sure it could handle being dropped and tossed around. Unfortunately I lost this tool over a year ago Probably in a crawlspace ( I’m an HVAC contractor and do lots of residential crawlspace work also). A friend gave me his Ryobi moisture meter, same non-probe style as the Klein. I loved the Klein much more, although They operate similarly. I am going to order another Klein right now, and that’s why im leaving a review right now, a year later. And if I lose this second one, I’ll be buying a third one. Good tool great price. 5 stars
