I was making shirts for camp, for 10 adults and 20+ kids. We did adults the first night to figure it all out. We were messy with it, putting too much dye on them, with dye dripping off of them. Several adults liked blue and green, and we used up all the light blue and most of the pink in one of the kits, but otherwise had at least half of the other colors leftover. When we did it with the kids the next day, we had them drop it very carefully, a few drops at a time. Much much less messy, much more controlled, no dye running all over, and PLENTY of all colors. We just wasted a lot the first time. With 30 shirts, and 2 kits, we still had half bottles of a lot of colors. Details: in both cases, we twisted and handed the shirts, then dyed them. Then we put each shirt in a ziplock bag, sealed, for 8ish hours. After that, we rinsed each stilled twisted shirt with water until it ran mostly clear, then put them all in a Rubbermaid tub with water and several cups of vinegar for about a half hour. After the vinegar, we drained them, unbanded them, and threw them all in the wash together. They came out beautifully. Tips: wear gloves. If kids are doing it, wear aprons or paint shirts. If adults are doing it, consider aprons or paint shirts. Consider doing it outside. We did it on an old picnic table and it was fine. There is a thin tablecloth in the kit, if you’re on a nice, big table, cover it well.

This set is awesome! We bought it to have as a rainy day activity on our family vacation. It was perfect. We were able to tie dye 6 mens small undershirts and 5 kids XL tank undershirts and had lots of colors left. Best thing is all the items came out looking like the kids wanted them to! They look fantastic. It was so easy. We used foil pans to help contain the mess which worked great. This set would be prefect for a party!

They worked great but there was some powder leakage so everything was blue including my hands from touching it. The colors were vibrant and great when used and I definitely recommend!

First the positive info: The variety of colors in this pack are awesome. We had some really beautiful shirts come out of our group activity. Everybody was please with the colors. Also, I don’t think tie-dye can get much easier than using squirt bottles to apply the color. Very easy to use for a group of kids ranging from 6th to 12 grade. The only problem was estimating how much I would need for a group. This was my first year as the craft organizer at a youth group camp. I knew tie-dye shirts are a staple activity that the students LOVE to do. Tulip brand one-step dye was used in the past so I just decided to go with it this year too. I did a lot of research before hand to make good use of our funds and still have enough for all the kids. I decided to go with these bundles because they were $15.85 each at the time I purchased. I was a little bit surprised by how small the bottles were, though, and I was nervous upon seeing them that we woudn’t have enough. I read several questions regarding the Tulip dyes and it seemed like one bottle per person on average was recommended. I can tell you that is NOT the case for the bottles in this pack. Between five packs I had 90 bottles. We were only able to do 66 shirts and on those last shirts we were literally going through every bottle to use every last drop of dye we could. We had to turn a few kids away because we didn’t have enough dye. Now I understand the situation was a result more of my planning and not because of the product, however, I did find it hard to figure out how much I needed ahead of time (even with all the research I did). I would say for this pack plan on at least an average of 1.5 bottles per shirt. So if you bought one kit, you might get twelve adult size sm-large shirts done. You might even want to be safe and plan on only 10 shirts out of this pack. I hope that helps anyone in the future.

I just ordered the same kit for the 6th time. Initially, I got it for my kids 2-3 years ago as a summer project. They loved it so much, some time later we bought another one. When the price drops, I order a few to give as presents to my kids’ friends. They all love this kit! Great value. My daughter made a few shirts that she’s worn and washed countless times. The colors do start to fade after a while, but that’s fine.
