After wiring and installing low voltage lights around our backyard pool and spa, I wanted an easy way to turn them off when using the spa to see the night sky better. The low voltage transformer for the yard lights is on a side of the house not easily accessed from the backyard. A Google search for outdoor WiFi switch brought up this WiOn product and the description sounded perfect for what I needed. When I received it and set it up, it was exactly what I needed. Product was easy to install with the matching app and easy to use. On those cool, cloudless evenings when a soak in the spa with stargazing is the perfect ending to our day, I can easily switch the yard lights off from the pool with my phone. If I didnt have a dedicated, switched outlet for my outdoor Christmas lights, the WiOn switch is a great solution to add to an outdoor outlet to turn lights on and off from the comfort of your living room.

I tried four of these things (one from Amazon, three from my local Menards). They need to be within about 10 feet of an access point to be even semi-functional. This appears to be an internal antenna issue with these devices specifically rather as other smart plugs I own do not have these issues. If you happen to be close enough to a wireless access point for a Wion Plug to connect and operate in a Smart fashion, youll find out that the Wion App and Alexa Smart Devices will both report that these devices are irregularly rather than constantly available, even under an ideal condition. Of the four devices I tried, one was completely nonfunctional. It never powered on or powered any attached devices. A second one refused to enter pairing mode and could not be configured. Two more would only connect irregularly and of those two, one would shut down after operating for about three minutes. It felt like it might have been overheating. All four were tried both indoors, within about 1 meter of open air from a commercial-grade access point; and outdoors, where they were 2.5 and one standard wood-and-drywall home construction wall from the same commercial access point. For a device that is purportedly design for outdoor use, I found these to be objectively bad. Half of the devices I tried wouldnt even consistently operate as simple power outlets! Dont buy these.

Ive had this unit for a while and all of a sudden stopped connecting. I went on the WIOn website and selected support. A chat window opened. After some back and forth dialogue and correction steps (which did not work) the agent said that they would charge me $55 to correct the issue because they are a third party...and WiOn does not have customer support. What?!? No idea whats going on. I can but a whole new unit for that, and the idea that one would pay to get basic customer support from the vendor is ludicrous. Beware.

This review is for the Wi-FI version of the outlet, NOT the standard remote control (non-Wi-Fi) version. An outstanding product. Unboxed, plugged in, connected to wi-fi, and was using the app on my phone in about ten minutes. Pros: * Easy to connect to wi-fi * Has a variety of settings that are easily accessed through the app on my iPhone: Programmable Timer, Countdown Timer, Astronomic Timer, Vacation Random, and Security Random. The Programmable Timer (a multi-day timer) is easy to set and adjust. * You can give a custom name to the device(s) that you are controlling. I called mine icicle lights. * Has two outlets. Its worth noting that the two outlets can not be controlled independently. Whatever settings you use for one outlet have to be used for the second outlet. * Has a simple on/off switch on the app so I can easily override the programmed settings. * A good value for the cost. Cons: * Havent found any so far. Setup: * MY WiOn 50049 Outdoor Wi-Fi Outlet (2 outlets), is connected to an Airport Extreme router. The WiOn app is installed on my iPhone 6s. Works very nicely. Used to connect my icicle lights to my wi-fi network. No more having to go up and down the stairs to turn them on and off or fiddling with a clunky digital timer or reprogramming the timer when the power goes out. One thing to note: When the app searches for the router, it can take a few minutes for it to find it, depending on the speed of your mobile device.

I ordered two of these units in 2018 (currently 2019) to control outdoor Christmas lights. They work great - easy set up, app is easy to navigate -though make sure you give them 1 word names - and very easy integration into Amazon Alexa. I set up a routine in Alexa to turn them off and on at given times, and grouped them under Outside Christmas Lights so that I can also voice command them. Then I put them in storage for a year, pulled them out this Christmas and they still work great. Ended up buying two more.

UPDATE: Thanks to a review from another person, I finally figured out how to make mine work with alexa. The key is the plug needs to have a 1 word name (in WiOn app). If you use 2 words, it wont connect to alexa. Now that its working with alexa, its a great product. The company isnt great though. No support and their iOS app is the worst UI ive ever seen. Original review: Use this for my x-mas lights on the patio. Now I can turn them on and off without going outside to plug/unplug it, which is awesome. I use the timer usually. Only issue is that Alexa wont find the device, so I cannot use voice commands. I have the skills connected, but the device wont be found.

UPDATE: After three months I am still very happy with the devices. Worked through and rain and shine. And most importantly, someone finally figured out how to make them work with Alexa: Make sure when you name them use only ONE WORD such as Garage. If you do, Alexa will discover them and they seamlessly integrated into the Alexa experience. Use a phrase such as Garage Door, no dice. Amazing that the manufacturer was totally useless in helping to figure this one out. Ordered two, and I like them a lot. I use them for timed on/off of holiday decorations. While the units themselves work great, I am not impressed with the companion iPhone app. Not only a UI designed by a moron but the Amazon Echo integration is not working at all. I looked online, and I am not alone with that issue.

I bought three WiOn products five months ago and extremely happy with all of them. To minimize writing, my reviews for all three are very similar. What a product! What a convenience! I bought this and WiOn 50050 and 50052 and they have made my life Sooooo much easier. Im using 50050 for the lights on the front porch which is controlled from a switch inside the front door, use 50052 for the living room and this one for outside lights which light up outside landscape. All controlled from one app on my iPhone. Although they are all scheduled and dont need me to mess with them every day, but I, often, override the schedule and change them as needed; from home or if Im miles away. As long as I have internet connection, which is almost anywhere, Im connected. Writing this review five months after purchase and very very happy with them. Highly recommended.

Bought two of these in Nov 2016 for outdoor lighting and fountain control (one for each). Getting ready to order another to control additional lighting were adding. As I recall, the setup was a little tricky. Had to read the instructions carefully to connect it with wifi, then with Alexa. But its pretty amazing to just tell Alexa to turn on the patio lights, or turn on the fountain and voila! Its on. Guests love it. Smartphone app works perfectly too. Highly recommend

Ive used this WiOn outdoor wireless Plug-In for a year now to control my dog house heaters while Im at work. I wanted the heaters to be on in the chilly mornings, but off later in the day when it warmed up. This product is perfect: I control it from the WiOn app on m iPhone. I turn the outdoor heater before I leave for work and then anytime later via the app, turn it off! This model doesnt have its own timer but that is a small matter to control the off/on myself. Its a good and simple, and Ilike that. Ive had zero problems. I recall having a bit of a problem syncing it up the first time, but I tried a couple times and it worked; I didnt have to call support or anything. I bought this item on faith because it was reasonably priced, especially compared to the many other products of this sort, plus it seemed to have a lot of satisfied purchasers, and Ive been completely happy with it.
