> 3 dayBeing an engineer, I was disappointed that I could not get the device set up and resorted to calling customer support. The first person could not get it to work, so they connected me to someone else. I could not get it to connect to the device. The bottom line was that the customer support person says that it just does not work with some smart phones, and that I should try another one to get it set up. Trouble is I live alone. I will have to see if I can get another person to my house with a smart phone so I can connect the WION device to my router. These are the steps I took: 1. Plugged in the WION device. Blue light blinking. 2. Connected my Android cell phone to the WION WiFi signal. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4. 3. Started the WION app. It had a popup that said Looking for Router.... That is all it would do. Customer support said to click on the Plus sign to manually add it, but when I did that it would just beep at me with no other action. 4. This is a pain in the you know where!

> 3 dayThis 15A outlet is Wi-Fi controlled so I can turn it on an off using an app on my phone. I can also control it using my voice with Amazon Alexa and if my network goes down for some reason I can control it with an onboard switch. A great and versatile addition to my life.

> 3 dayWorking well. I’m getting ready to order my third. WiFi range is good. One is in a crawlspace under the house. Even next to a steel beam, it’s connecting to WiFi well. Instructions on setting up and controlling second unit could be better. I found help on an online video. To adjust second or additional units, you have to shift the devices icon to the leftmost position on your display. Once you know to do that, it’s simple to set up. I have it set up on a non-broadcast WiFi network. That can be tricky with some devices, but not this one.

> 3 dayTLDR; App is terrible and no support from manufacturer, but works okay via voice control and timer as long as you have wifi network that broadcasts separate 2.4ghz and 5ghz SSIDs. Will NOT work if you have a network that has a single SSID for both bands (e.g. Google WiFi and many mesh networks) Full review: I used two of these switches for about 10 months. As long as you have a WiFi network with a dedicated 2.4GHz SSID it will work, though the app is by far the worst app of all the smart device apps I have (out of ~10). Assuming you do get it setup and dont make any changes to WiFi settings it works well enough on a timer and with Alexa. After switching my WiFi network to Google WiFi, can no longer do the setup to connect switches to the network. There is no support from the manufacturer so you cant actually get help from them. Have gone over 3 weeks of emailing support contact without a response. In doing my own trouble shooting and research it seems that the device is not capable of working on any network where both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands are broadcast using the same SSID. I even tried forcing my phone to be connected to WiFi on the 2.4GHz band in order to do the setup (had to turn off nearby Google WiFi puck so I connected to the 2.4GHz band from a router farther away), but this still did not work. Very frustrating because the app does not provide any feedback or really show anything - there are no settings or other things you can try within it. It seems like an app that was created by a complete novice as a minimum viable product and has not been touched since. In my home smart devices including multiple Alexa echos, Google Home, Phillips Hue, TP Link, WeMo, Ecobee, Ring, FDT View, Amazon Cloud Cam.... all worked seamlessly with transition to Google WiFi, with these WiOn switches being the only problematic ones.

> 3 dayWow! More than I expected. Honestly I bought this so we wouldnt have to squeeze behind the armoire to get to the outlet to turn on the Xmas lights. We use to bribe the kids to turn on the lights now we all fight to turn them on. Has a great timer as well so you can program the lights to go on and off at a certain time and a whole bunch of other options I havent even explored. Im thinking I could even use this after the holidays. You might think you can probably pick something up at the dollar store that does something similar but no this goes way beyond. Im a very frugal person and I feel this was worth every dollar. Well honestly Ive been only using it for two weeks but so far Im very happy.

> 3 dayFor a few years, I had 5 of these controlling my outdoor landscaping lights. I liked that they didnt require a hub, didnt require communication over the Internet with a server somewhere, and was completely self-contained on my home network. I finally abandoned these in favor of a hub-based system (like SmartThings and Wink) because they are just way too unreliable and have very few programming options. The app that controls these is atrocious and looks like it was designed by someone with no app design experience. Although it can do things like turn on the lights at sunset and turn them off at sunrise, theres no way to do something like turn off the lights 4 hours after sunset unless you program it manually. That may have changed in the few months since I got rid of them. It should be something easy to implement if someone was actually working to improve the app. These have to be in range of a really good wifi signal, otherwise they are impossible to program and control manually. One nice thing is that it will remember the programming, even if not connected to wifi. There were lots of times where the app said the switches couldnt be reached by wifi, but they still turned on and off at the right times. When that happened, the only way to reset the wifi connection was to physically go to the switch and reset it, which was a huge pain. I was constantly having to mess around with the app and the switches to get them to work. Since switching over to a server-based hub system with a better app interface, Ive not had to touch or reprogram my landscape lights once.

> 3 dayGreat purchase. For the price of not much more than a typical outdoor-rated timer, I was able to get this WiOn. Ive been using it extensively for the past month to control my outdoor Christmas lights. It took less than 10 minutes to figure it out and get everything working with my lights on a timer. Remote access through the app is super simple and works with no discernible lag via Wi-Fi or cellular connection (I am running the Android version of the app). The only negative is that I dont think this can be controlled by other popular app-based controllers (WeMo, etc.), but I could be wrong. Also, I have not yet tried using this with my Amazon Echo devices to test Alexa support, but I know that it is supported.

> 3 dayThis just doesnt work. You could spend hrs trying to get it to connect to Wi-Fi. By the time you either give up or do get an actual working device, you will have already bought a different brand. STAY AWAY! of the 6 I ordered, only 2 ended up working and then 1 died over the years. Figured to retry my luck only to relive the hell of trying to get it to connect and then ultimately accepting defeat.

> 3 dayThis review is for the Wi-FI version of the outlet, NOT the standard remote control (non-Wi-Fi) version. An outstanding product. Unboxed, plugged in, connected to wi-fi, and was using the app on my phone in about ten minutes. Pros: * Easy to connect to wi-fi * Has a variety of settings that are easily accessed through the app on my iPhone: Programmable Timer, Countdown Timer, Astronomic Timer, Vacation Random, and Security Random. The Programmable Timer (a multi-day timer) is easy to set and adjust. * You can give a custom name to the device(s) that you are controlling. I called mine icicle lights. * Has two outlets. Its worth noting that the two outlets can not be controlled independently. Whatever settings you use for one outlet have to be used for the second outlet. * Has a simple on/off switch on the app so I can easily override the programmed settings. * A good value for the cost. Cons: * Havent found any so far. Setup: * MY WiOn 50049 Outdoor Wi-Fi Outlet (2 outlets), is connected to an Airport Extreme router. The WiOn app is installed on my iPhone 6s. Works very nicely. Used to connect my icicle lights to my wi-fi network. No more having to go up and down the stairs to turn them on and off or fiddling with a clunky digital timer or reprogramming the timer when the power goes out. One thing to note: When the app searches for the router, it can take a few minutes for it to find it, depending on the speed of your mobile device.

> 3 dayFantastic device, quite easy to set up and it seems to be working reliably after 4 days in use. I am using it to remotely control a pond aerator that requires a very specific on/off schedule. An added benefit of using a WIFI-enabled device in the cloud is that I know the house power and my home wifi network are functioning generally, and also that the aerators circuit has not tripped the GFI. This unit can handle 15 amps and 1000 watts, well above the 1/3 hp 5-amp draw (650 watts) of my pond aerator motor. The WiOn app on my iPhone is easy to use and offers great programming flexibility as well as manual on/off override independent of the time settings.
