> 24 hourIve used a variety of fire starters and nothing beats this. The size is very easy to work with and I love how they attach the striker with braided paracord. I keep these (bought more than one) in my backpack and I have a survival pouches attached to a couple of my Kydex sheaths along with other survival tools. I know Ill be able to start a lot of fires with this because Ive practiced at home with my kids...I purchased ones for them to practice with as well.

> 24 hourThe rods are fairly heavy (6), but worth their weight when you need to start a fire! I hadnt used a ferro rod before, but with a little pressure, these really throw some hot sparks and are super easy to use! Way easier than those magnesium fire starters that you have to scrape off a bunch into a pile to light. Using this with a small ball of dryer lint or char cloth, my 8-yr old can start a fire with a couple strikes on the rod. Im glad I went with the 6 version as it would be tougher to hold and get the volume of sparks with a shorter rod, though I havent used one so I cant say for sure.
