Ive used a variety of fire starters and nothing beats this. The size is very easy to work with and I love how they attach the striker with braided paracord. I keep these (bought more than one) in my backpack and I have a survival pouches attached to a couple of my Kydex sheaths along with other survival tools. I know Ill be able to start a lot of fires with this because Ive practiced at home with my kids...I purchased ones for them to practice with as well.

The rods are fairly heavy (6), but worth their weight when you need to start a fire! I hadnt used a ferro rod before, but with a little pressure, these really throw some hot sparks and are super easy to use! Way easier than those magnesium fire starters that you have to scrape off a bunch into a pile to light. Using this with a small ball of dryer lint or char cloth, my 8-yr old can start a fire with a couple strikes on the rod. Im glad I went with the 6 version as it would be tougher to hold and get the volume of sparks with a shorter rod, though I havent used one so I cant say for sure.

This thing is beefy. Will last me the rest of my life. Love it
