> 3 dayAs a retired Army Ranger, Vietnam LRRP and hunter, I wouldnt venture into the woods, forrest or jungle without this hanging safely around my neck. This investment is well worth the few dollars you pay for it. I have one in each vehicle along with other items for emergencies, hunting/camping and bug out bags. The one thing humans realized hundreds of years ago that they wanted when it gets dark, cold or if lost...fire for warmth, safety, cooking, signaling, drying out, etc.....this is a heavy duty striker and will function 99.999% of the time. This item comes with parachute cord, striker and scraper (to remove protective covering). Remember, you must scrap a small portion of the protective covering off to spark/strike the device, never strike indoors as its like a mini welders rod with each strike, instant fire. Three or four dollars for a device you hope you wont have to use but thankful you have it.

> 3 dayThis thing is a BEAST of a ferro rod! When I first got it home, I scraped off the coating and struck it a couple of times in the living room. I almost caught my carpet on fire!!! Kinda dumb on my part, but Id never seen those kinds of sparks from any of my other Ferro rods... Luckily, my wife didnt notice the tiny burns in the carpet, (theres a reason I wanted dark brown carpet). Kinda heavy, but Im sure itll last a really long time. The paracord lanyard is pretty nice too. My only complaint is that the striker is pretty small. When one is cold and wet, and really needs a fire, gross motor skills can be slightly impaired. In that situation, a larger striker would be an advantage. Overall though, I am very pleased.
