Setup of the product was easy. The one time it worked -- when I tested it for a couple of minutes on my iMac Intel Core Duo, running OS 10.6.5 -- it seemed to work well. Unfortunately, when I tried to use it again I received a message from the computer that the device was drawing too much current and that the computer had disabled the USB port. Subsequent attempts were ignored by the computer. I tried again on a different Mac on which I had installed the software, but it did not recognize the device either. Obviously, the hardware had been damaged. But this was far from obvious to the Roxio TechSupport people whom I reached via their web site. They would suggest I read the manual (which I had done), install the software (which I had done) and similar useless advice. After faithfully following their advice I told them repeatedly that we obviously seemed to be dealing with a hardware problem, but they have so far simply ignored that possibility. Needless to say, this has been a frustrating process. (I should mention that my professional background is electronic engineering, that I have used Mac computers, peripherals and software since 1986 and that many of my friends ask my help in troubleshooting their Mac hardware and software.) This process has now been going on for a month. It has usually taken 3-5 days for TechSupport to answer my messages and it has now been a week since the last time I heard from them. I have not idea how the device would work if it worked. Will update this review if anything changes.

It does exactly what it says. The included version of Toast is still Toast 9. As you install, an updater takes you to the 9.07 updater required to run in the current Mac. You will have to go to Preferences/Security as the updater triggers the untrusted developer error but once you allow installation everything works well. The only downside is that this should really include the current version of Toast 11. Other than that, it works fine.

The Amazon description is for a version of this software that will run on OS X 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6 Macs. The problem is the software sent to me will only work on Intel Macs, and only those running OS X 10.6 up to OS X 10.9. The information right on the package I received stated Intel only. I sent it back for refund. I need a version that will run on PPC G5 processors with OS X 10.5.

The connection software and hardware work as described. My only issue is that you need to monitor the conversion for breaks in the VHS recording that could stop the conversion process. I used my desktop Mac Pro, which made logistics for equipment setup a bit challenging.

This worked great for me ! I digitized all my old VHS-C tapes with Roxio Video Capture. I was able to transfer the videos to a PhotoSpring Digital Picture Frame. The 30 year old videos came out great. There is a sizing option on the software so you can break up the video into smaller files. This was perfect for my purpose - recovering old VHS tapes before they rot. I was thrilled to see these old videos of family, friends, vacations. Now they are on a digital photo frame to see anytime. I was also able to see them on my TV with the Apple TV box (the PhotoSpring frame resolution looks better than on TV). I was going to make a return to Roxio at first because it crashed. (They do accept returns.) But I persevered and found out it was my VHS player which was broken. I bought a used JVC HRS5912U VHS player for $65, s-video male to male cables $12 to hook it up, and a VHS cleaning kit $10 to clean the heads periodically while running these old tapes through it. I already had a VHS_C cassette adapter (had to replace corroded batteries & clean up, otherwise new is $20). You also need RCA male to male Stereo cable - I already had lots of them. This all worked fine. The VHS player doesnt have to be hooked up through the TV, I just cabled it to my computer with the player sitting under my MacBook - when you hit play on VHS Player, the display goes through the Roxio Video Capture program. The Roxio USB connector was a little loose so try not to jostle it. I tested recording quality difference between a Composite -vs- S-video hookup: Definitely use S-video if you have the option, composite is not bad though. It was all worth it - the cash and the effort. The results are priceless ! Can you imagine getting to recover video from so long ago ? Thanks Roxio !

This worked great for me! I have a MacBook Pro and I am so happy I was able to save my home videos with this!

Needed app for my new iMac to copy camcorder videos to dvd it takes an extra step due to writing the camcorder file to my hard drive. Then I need to use an app named Express Burn to write the file from my hard drive to the dvd. Before I used Instant DVD on my Windows laptop and it wrote the camcorder file directly to the dvd in one step. Roxio takes two steps but outside of that it works as advertised.

Thought a Roxio product would actually work but was sadly mistaken. The interface was easy and actually worked pulling in a video from my VHS player. That is as far as my positive comments can go. The software that came with this was worthless. You press record and it appears to be recording, but after you are done you would expect a button saying finish recording (or save, or something along that line) but there isnt and the recording does not save anywhere on your hard drive. I went to the Roxio site and there is no support for the product at all. The software only showed an update for older software than what came with the product. I thought maybe it would help so I downloaded the only software they had on the Roxio site and it was worse than the original. With no ability to save the recording, it will not be in my possession for very long. I am sending it back. I have looked into the Elgato Video Capture option. I hope it works better than this POC!

I have tried for years to find a reliable Viudeo converter that was reasonably priced. Roxio ahs done it. I have over 100 tapes to convert, and Im more than half way through without a glitch! its easy to trim, name the recording and identify where you want to store it. You will not be disappointed

This product does what it says. I had a little trouble getting the sound to work and record, but I called Roxio tech support and they helped me get it working within about 15 minutes. I have a MacBook Air with OS X El Capitan 10.11.6.
