I purchased a couple of iHome smart outlets last year and they have been working great. I even move them around to different rooms/lamps, etc. and just rename them and they have no problem. These Vocolinc plugs are much cheaper and seem to be made to work with Apple Homekit well. Setup is easy for Homekit. You just plug them in and open the wifi on your settings and youll see a message in a few moments for the new plug to join the network and add to Homekit. When you respond yes youll get a prompt to scan the QR code from the box or the plug. Do that and it shows up in your home a few seconds later. Voila, youre done. Now you can set lamps to automatically turn on or off by schedule or as part of a scene. This product is a great addition so far!

I was a little nervous about issues other reviewers have posted but my experience was very good. The set up of each outlet did take a second attempt but after that they have stayed connected without any issues. The QR code to link to Home Kit was not only on the outlets but on the flap of the box and on the instruction sheet so I didnt have to try and scan it from underneath the outlet like some people said they did. The manufacturers app was simple to use but I just use Siri and we were able to link the lights to the motion sensor on our Ecobee thermostat so the lights come on when we enter the room and after a set amount of time turn off. Will be buying more of these for other parts of the house!

These plugs work great with Alexa and are easy to set up. On the other hand, these things work horribly with HomeKit, they are a pain in the #ss to set up because you have to scan a code on the bottom of them, while it’s plugged in! Then once they were finally set up, they all stopped working with HomeKit after 3 days!!! I do not recommend this product for HomeKit users, but I do sort of recommend it for Alexa users.

I’ve tried a lot of Smartplugs and VOCOlinc’s Smartplugs are one of the easiest to connect to their app and Google Assistant and to use and control. I like that I can use them to turn off lamps, iron, hair straighteners, and other items around the house that can use a lot of energy when on / plugged in, but not used, and cause a lot of damage if left on. I like that it’s one of only 2 smartplugs brands that are compatible with the platform of an energy company in California called OhmConnect. So when the grid needs me to use less energy, OhmConnect turns my smartplugs and the devices connected to them off for me. I save energy and OhmConnect pays me for it. Now, I connect my boys’ computers to them to help preserve the battery. We always tell them to unplug their computers after school is over, but they usually forget. Therefore, I’ve scheduled the smartplugs to turn off everyday after school is over and back on in the morning when they start school again. So whether they unplug their computers or not, we’re covered.

We mostly use Wemo outlets but, not finding the ones we usually purchase, we bought four of these. Each outlet, a least once a month, we get the message that the outlet is not responding and then have to climb behind or move furniture to manually turn on/off the outlet or reset it.

I purchased these plugs to connect a few lamps with Apple’s HomeKit. We use the HomePod mini as our hub. Installation and setup is pretty easy. The product provides the ability to turn a device on/off with the use of Siri or with a couple taps on your apple device. You could also program it to use automations or follow a specified schedule. Overall I’m satisfied with the purchase. I’m glad I did not need to purchase smart bulbs as I did not need control over the lights’ color or intensity. Plus I could use the smart plug with devices other than lighting. Easy recommendation for those looking to try a simple smart home setup with minimal investment.

Update (2 stars to 4 stars): I’ve had these smart plugs now for a few years and I wasn’t very impressed with them for the first year and half. I often went to turn them on either via the app or Apple HomeKit and they would say they were offline, even though I had them fairly near my Wi-Fi router. It seems though that they have been greatly improved over the past year or so. They are now reliably available almost all the time. I have them run on a schedule during the holidays for my Christmas lights and the schedule has run reliably as expected every day. It seems they’ve resolved the connection issues in their firmware updates and I commend the company for continuing to support the product years down the road. If I didn’t have the rough first year and half, I would have given 5 stars. But I trust that these are now a reliable option for everyone.

Im using this in an Apple HomeKit setup. I was really glad to see that you could set it up directly in HomeKit, and the setup was perfectly seamless. So many products require you to download the manufacturers app these days, which inevitably tries to gather your email, personal information, etc etc... its refreshing to have something that just works as hardware like its supposed to. The responsiveness through HomeKit is excellent as well. No delays when turning lights on through the app.

These smart plugs installed very easily and work as described. I tested with Google, Alexa, and Apple. I previously bought some other smart plugs that were also for Apple but had issues. I successfully installed one of the plugs, but after a power failure the next day, the plug never worked, nor any of the other plugs, so that’s when I bought the VOCOlinc plugs. I also installed the VOCOlinc app so that I could save and manage the plugs. After you install the plugs, you should do the firmware update for each of the plugs. The app steps you through the easy update. As a note, I have an xFinity dual band router (2.4 and 5G) and did not have to perform anything special with the router for the plugs to install. The smart plugs are smart!
