This device paired quickly using HomeKit on first use, but after a firmware update (using the VOCOlinc app), it lost connection to my home and I could never recover. The firmware update cause an incompatible error message on HomeKit, and I returned it for a refund. Not recommended for HomeKit use.

Just set up three of these to control holiday lights around the house. I didnt even bother downloading the proprietary app -- just scanned the barcode on each one in Apples Home app and plugged them in. Theyve been rock solid ever since, and nicely integrated into the other stuff I have in the Home app setup.

It was so easy and quick to set up the VOCOlink SmartBar switch device using my iPhone and their LinkWise app. Great value for the price! Be sure your phone or tablet is connected to your 2.4GHz network first before connecting this switch to your WIFI network. You can switch your phone/tablet back to your 5GHz network when you are done. You need to use the LinkWise app to initially connect the switch, and their app must be given permission to the Apple Home app . You should also update the firmware for the switch, using the LinkWise app, right after you first connect it to your WiFi network. The LinkWise app automatically adds the devices to the Apple “Home” app. I now use the Apple Home app to control all my WiFi switch devices, including the VOCOlink switches. I liked this switch so much, I ordered two more.

If you want a dual system plug, this is the one to buy. Effective, affordable, easy to use.

The best compliment that you can give for this specific type of device is that it is transparent - and they are. They’re very easy to set up and add to HomeKit and once they’re set up, they just work! Not only are they rock solid, but they’re quick too. Whether I’m controlling it via the Vocolinc app, the Apple Home app or via Siri - they respond very quickly. To be honest, I was wary at first because of the price difference between these smart plugs and other, comparable ones. But with Amazon’s return policies I figured I didn’t have anything to lose but time. I was so happy when these turned out to be actually better/faster/more reliable than the other ones I’ve tried. To be fair, I’ve only tried the iHome and Eve smart plugs (aside from these). But both were a lot more expensive and neither worked reliably for me - and they were both slow in my experience. I have 6 of these smart outlets now. They are extremely handy to have around. I have 3 of them permanently installed on various devices and 3 that act as ‘floaters’. They’re great for holiday decorations. I used them for my Christmas tree, outdoor Christmas lights, glowy-jack-o-lantern-dealies, etc. They’re also really great for troubleshooting other ‘misbehaving’ devices. I had a HomeKit video camera that was having serious issues and I plugged it in to one of these smart plugs so I wouldn’t have to wrestle with climbing on a step-stool every time I needed to reset the camera (which was A LOT!). I should also mention how impressed I am with Vocolinc support. I’ve had to contact them for a different Vocolinc product and they have been shockingly attentive and helpful. These days good customer support is a crap shoot - so I am really pleased that they’re one of the very good ones. It’s actually one of the primary reasons I keep buying their stuff. So, if it wasn’t already obvious - highly recommended!

This is a good switch.. I bought the 2 pack. I really only needed one, but the price was good so I thought Im sure Ill find a use for the second switch. I was attracted to this because of the ability to integrate with homekit. I have an Orbi mesh setup, it broadcasts the same SSID for the 5ghz and 2.4ghz, with no apparent way to temporarily turn off the 5ghz network. The process to setup the switch goes like this on an iPhone. Download the manufacturers app -> click on add device -> You are then bounced to the homekit screen to scan the QR code for the device. Your phone MUST be on the 2.4ghz network for it to work. Thats where my problem was. I solved this by taking a 100ft extension cord and going out into the yard where the 5ghz doesnt reach. With phone connected to the 2.4ghz network (I can verify this by checking in the Orbi app), it had no problem setting up the first switch. I could not get the second one to work. As far as the working switch goes, no problems, works fine after unplugging and plugging back in where it connects to the 2.4ghz network with no issue. Hope this helps you make a decision.

I bought the single plug and it worked fine. I, later, bought a four-pack, and I had trouble installing 2 out of 4. Once they were installed, they struggled to stay connected. I ended up returning the four-pack, but the single plug is still up and running. Seems like it might be hit or miss. I have VOCOlinc bulbs and contact sensors, which work great.

These smart plugs installed very easily and work as described. I tested with Google, Alexa, and Apple. I previously bought some other smart plugs that were also for Apple but had issues. I successfully installed one of the plugs, but after a power failure the next day, the plug never worked, nor any of the other plugs, so that’s when I bought the VOCOlinc plugs. I also installed the VOCOlinc app so that I could save and manage the plugs. After you install the plugs, you should do the firmware update for each of the plugs. The app steps you through the easy update. As a note, I have an xFinity dual band router (2.4 and 5G) and did not have to perform anything special with the router for the plugs to install. The smart plugs are smart!

First off, I do not write reviews. This one made me do it out of pure frustration. For the Google and Alexa users, maybe your experience will be better. Apple HomeKit users, please read and find an alternative like I’m looking for currently. I feel like I need to visit a psychologist after dealing with these. I felt rage I had never felt before. It wasn’t a human emotion. I fully expect to wake up and have flashbacks. These SmArT pLuGs will make you want to summon Thor’s hammer and thunder pound these into dust. I’d rather Chuck Norris karate chop me in the throat before I’d set up four more of these things. All that being said, if you are the CHOSEN ONE and manage to get these connected to Apple HomeKit, they work great. Which they should for the hell you go through. Once your done, have a drink(s) or go out to a nice dinner. You deserve it.

I have 4 of these switches. They work great until your power goes out, and then youre going to have problems. While they usually keep working with Apple HomeKit even after a power outage, their connection to Alexa is usually lost completely. Sometimes I get lucky and can simply unplug them and plug them back in after the router gets back up and going, but this doesnt usually work. If it doesnt, the only solution is to remove them from the Alexa app, reset the plugs, and add them back to the home as a new device. Then you have to add them back to all the scenes, automations, etc. for them to work like they used to. When you do this reset, it also means you also have to add them back to the Apple home app.
