> 3 dayJust received my 1T Passport External Drive from Amazon today. Very slow on my Lenovo Windows 10 laptop. Still waiting for it to finish backing up 78 GB. Only 1.5 GB completed in over 90 minutes. Also, I setup folders for each of my 3 computers so that I could backup each one into its own folder. The software does not allow you to specify a folder on the drive or maybe I somehow missed it. Not very excited about this purchase. Next time Ill invest a bit more money for an SSD.

> 3 dayFirst, I will say the actual hardware has functioned fine. The issue is the backup and restore software provided with the drive is JUNK! I used the backup software to set up scheduled backups of my files and it worked well for that. I could see the backed up files and thought all was well. I went to restore the backed up files on a new computer and COULD NOT GET THE SOFTWARE TO FUNCTION! I am fairly tech savvy, but no matter what I did, could I get the software on the new computer to even see the backed up files. I tried a number of times over several days. I plugged the drive back into the old computer and I could see everything on it. I moved the drive back to the new computer and the WD backup software said there was no backup files to restore. Fortunately I was not dealing with a dead old hard drive, so I simply dragged and dropped the files on to the drive and manually copied to the new computer. The main problem with this is the automatic WD software backup that is scheduled and runs automatically is USELESS if the hard drive it is backing up crashes and one needs to restore that backup to a new computer. Im just glad I found out before I had a crash leaving me in a bad way!

> 3 dayLasted me a few months and stopped working out of no where one day and lost all my information on there. My brother also has one that has been working for years, I recommend getting the 2-year warranty just in case you get.

> 3 dayI was wondering why this external hard drive was filling up so fast and after a few e-mails, I received the following answer - please be informed that WD Backup maintains a second copy of the backup for data recovery purposes. It also requires additional disk space for pruning older backups from existing backup plans. If there is a 1 TB My Passport external drive, WD Backup can only process 465 GB of data because it requires two times (2x) the disk space to create the backup plan. (465 GB + 465 GB = 930 GB). This should be clearly stated in the description (which I do not see) so that were not fooled to believe that we actually have 1TB of storage and that its actually 1/3.

> 3 dayMy old, big and clunky hard drive was crashing, so I bought this little thing, and it was great out of the box. Plug n play, and I easily transferred everything off my old drive to this one, and there hasnt been a problem. Its small and inconspicuous, which I like. Some people complain about the small cable, but I think its perfect. My computer guy suggested this, and Im very pleased with it.

> 3 dayI love it! I use it for my PS4 and the added storage is great! Put 4 large memory games on this thing (The Witcher, Uncharted 4, Batman: Arkham Knight, Final Fantasy 15) and The YouTube app, which surprisingly took up a ton of space on my PS4 this and it didnt even get half way on the memory! This external hard drive is great and was easy to install. Best purchase I have mafe in a long while.

> 3 dayWhat I like about this external hard drive is that I can partition it. I copied my computers system backup from partition D to a partition on the HD. I also did a system image back up and also individual files such as music, pictures, and documents to the main partition. Ill do backups as the system and files change. Im running windows 10.

> 3 daySeems to work fine, but hard to tell because this product is not intuitive to install or use. The files you need to access online to install the software include a User Manual, which clicking on doesnt open, not even with the full version of Acrobat software that I have. There are absolutely no instructions, except from the community via the manufacturers website, and those are not for lay people, just techies. I even sent an email message through a Contact link to the WD people a few days ago but have heard nothing back. The reason I bought this device, although my old Passport seemed to be in good working order, though over five years old, was for better instructions and a more intuitive user experience. Apparently, none of that has improved with this new model. <sigh>
