Greater than one weekThis is a terrific product. I am a MAC user as wells PC and I found it easy to convert to a format readily accessible for both MAC and PC. Western had easy instruction to find, access and follow on their support site. I am not a programmer or IT Guru, so even Could get it done in short order. Once done, it was a breeze and I was able to transfer all my data and files to the drive and free up necessary hard disk space. It is light, portable and fast. I can now access the data between my MAC and PC. If you need a drive, I recommend this one without reservation. The price was right and it is a sold performed. Great for the road warrior like me.

15-04-2025Ive been using this for a few months as a backup drive for my iMac. I have it velcrod to the back of my mac and I plug it in once a week or so, let TimeMachine do its thing and then eject and unplug. It spins up quick and I have no issues. Its amazingly small and doesnt make any noise - which is great with keeping down the clutter. Setup was very easy, I reformatted it, selecting the format type of Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to clean up any things they may have pre-installed on it. Then opened up TimeMachine from the Settings app and selected it as the drive to backup to. Then you just need to give it a few hours for the first backup. Quick and easy.

> 3 dayI have had this for a month now. I currently use it as external storage for my PS4. I had zero issue hooking it up (plug and play) and my PS4 formatted it so it would work properly. I currently have it sitting next to my PS4 in my media table and have no issues with it. I also enjoy that it looks like the original PS4, with one shiny side.

Greater than one weekWorks like the other WD drives I have. It has all that extra software on it, but you dont have to use it if you dont want to. It also has a proprietary connector on its cable. Not sure Im loving that--what if something happens to that wire? Anyway, Ive had great luck with this brand in the past and Im expecting the same here; I would recommend this product.

> 3 dayIt’s always plugged into my ps4 as active storage...BEWARE: data can become corrupt if you don’t use appropriate surge protection! So far my ps4 has recovered data every time when it wasn’t plugged in to surge protector.

> 3 dayWD is the way to go, especially when theyre not putting garbage shovel-ware onto their External Hard Drives, and Im happy to report that there isnt any of that crap on this one. It requires no power to use this device other than the USB port, and from my experience wont give up on you after a year like most seagate drives Ive handled have. In this day and age, Dont get anything less than 2TB. The difference in price between 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB are extremely measly (50 for 1TB, 60 for 1.5, 70 for 2Tb). Thats 20$ more for double the capacity. And if youre buying this, you probably already filled up your primary hard drive. So just get the 2TB, or higher.

> 3 dayThis holds a lot of my photos. Im disappointed since the transfer rate is only about 15 MB per second. Larger video files go a lot quicker reaching 50 MB/sec.

> 3 dayReceived this item on time and in excellent condition, thanks to the way the manufacturer packaged it. Use it for my primary backup for new Dell XPS-8910 tower computer using Windows 10 Home edition. It is located on top of the pc and connects to one of the USB 3.0 ports on the front of the pc through about a 10 inch long USB cable that comes with the unit. Installation, settings/user preferences, and online registration of the unit was flawless, quick and easy. I have it set to perform a backup of my C: drive every hour, and it does the job in a timely manner on the hour. I have run all the diagnostic tests that the device is equipped with, and all have passed. The extended test that checks the entire 2TB drive took a little over 6 hours to check. I have not had to test the actual backup function yet. I also have an earlier model of this drive on a different, older computer since 2014, and it has served me well so far.

> 3 dayIve been using WD drives for backkups for years. These dont disappoint. My only beef is an ergonomic one - the squared off shape in this generation is a bit of a tight fit in the Amazon Basics cases. They do fit however.

> 3 dayIn short I returned the Western Digital HD. I originally got this portable HD because of the reputation of Western Digital, as the reviews showed it to be a great HD. Once I received it, I found the website, which as a life lesson I have learned to check out first, to read the manual. I was surprised to find that the security of the Western Digital HD is best described as Security Theater. Yes, the HD can be secured with a password. Great. Although, as I found reading the online manual, if you forget your password, it can be erased along with the contents of the entire drive. Yes, forget your secure password and you or anyone else, can erase the password and the entire contents of the HD. Well then, dont use a password. Then anyone can come in after you and setup a password and lock the HD. Can you say ransom? Yes, this could be done for ransom, but also for spite, or by accident. Which brings us back to the if you forget your password feature. So, dont setup a password and risk one being done for you, or setup a password and anyone can come along later and erase the password along with the entire contents of the HD. Either it is secure or it is not. Anything else is Security Theater.
