Dragon NaturallySpeaking Premium 11 [Old Version]

This is definitely an improvement over earlier versions. We got a high quality microphone that made a difference in using this. It just needs some time for system to understand an individuals speech. Recommended

Review was written by my husband Kurt Blust, who purchased this software through my account. DO NOT BUY THIS FOR USE WITH MULTIPLE VOICES. I was told by the Nuance chat purchase assistance line that this would have >85% accuracy for converting conversations to text. Actual accuracy was lower than 5% and is so slow that it is unusable. The product works fine for a single voice if you spend hours training the product to recognize your voice. After a lot of training, you can get its accuracy up to 80% to 95% for a single voice. However, if you type at more than 5 words per minute you would be much better off never purchasing this, and instead just type everyting up yourself. I would recommend this product to someone that is handicapped and maybe had no arms or maybe could only type with just 1 finger. But, for everyone else. Just avoid the product entirely and all similar products. Changing voice to text for personal consumption is just not a technology that is ready for personal PC use yet, and probably will not be useful for the next 10+ years. (Nuances Dragon Natually Speaking Premium V 11 is probably one of the best voice to text applications available on the market for PC use, but the accuracy and speed is terrible for multiple voices.) For a single voice, it can be adequate after training the software to your voice for at least 4 hours. The following is the results of Dragon Naturally speaking in translating a conversation after training it for hours on one of the voices in the conversation but not the others. As you can see, the accurracy is less than 3%. The other 97% of it is just crap that the Dragon Natually Speaking application made up. There are a couple of words and phrases from the conversation translated correctly. But, it butchered it so bad, that it is completely useless, and makes absolutely no sense at all. I took the advice of the folks who advised picking up version 11.5, and not only did I save a pocket full of cash but I got a good product to boot. After installation on my Windows 7 laptop (shut off your antivirus/spyware protection first!) all it took was about 20 minutes of reading to the software for training and it was surprisingly really super accurate and fast during dictation. Another plus was that it pointed me toward a free app for my iPhone that allows me to dictate text messages (Dragon Dictation). Sweet. Follow the advice of those telling you to pickup version 11.5 and get a good product for a lot less money.

The product is inexpensive and works well if you are willing to spend the time training it and correcting every grammatical error every time they occur and use a spell checker. If you are not willing to do that you will be frustrated. I use this product for medical transcription and once you add commonly used medical words into the vocabulary it works OK after continual training. It works best using templates. However, if you are viewing images in one window while dictating a report in another this is not the product for you. Only Dragon Medical works in hidden mode and this version cannot be upgraded for that function, so I have to rate this product as only above average. Technical support is painfully slow and not always accurate by email.

I have had this software for a little while now and I am quite impressed. I had Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10.1 and I had all kind of issues when I initially installed it. This software premium 11 installed quickly and easily with no problems at all. They still shipped this software with a very cheap headset that you will probably want to replace when you can, but it is functional. I dont think anyone will get 99% accuracy with the software but it will cut down on your typing considerably. Be patient as you try to get used to using the software and download the Premium workbook from the Nuance website which shows you all the great things this software can do. It worth giving it a demo. I think its a little too expensive but the price seems to fluctuate so if your not in a hurry wait on Amazon to drop the price.

This is v-11.5 It is few years ago That I tried DNS, probably version 5 or 6. It was real bad and I spend more time on correcting than dictating. So I gave up. Wanted to try it again got a new computer with intel i5 chip and 8GB ram.. Got Andreas head set and am impressed with its speed and accuracy from day one. I am enjoying using it and it is improving its accuracy with continued use. I think voice recognition has matured now.

I purchased this for a relative in my home who is missing a limb and has found any extensive typing to be a nightmare. We had an older version of Dragon (maybe 5.0?) which had quite a few flaws that rendered it almost unusable. These all seem to have been fixed by version 11. Literally, you talk and it types. After a brief breaking in period where the software gets to know your speech patterns and compensates for them, this software really takes over. Youll also have to learn the commands to use it at full potential but believe me its worth the time. For someone who formerly took 30 minutes to type out a page of text to be able to do it (with corrections) in less than 5? Thats amazing to me.

I have had this product for some time and it still does not learn my accent. I didnt even know I had an accent, but I must because the software just does not get me, no matter how hard I try. I am a writer and it is difficult at best to be creative with all the corrections needed when using this product. When I am writing things such as a fact-based only article, it is ok as I am not writing on the fly and can deal with all the corrections. It may be a good fit for someone else, but not me.

FOR ALL DNS PRODUCTS-- You need to have a PC with P4 or greater, a 2.5 GHZ or faster CPU, a 3GB + RAM, a good noise cancelling Headset or Mike, ....and the zen to train properly. Then train some more... If you do--you will like DNS. If not --it will frustrate the hell out of you. yours truly, Long time user PS--Use a good recorder on highest quality setting / with a Noise cancelling Headset or mike (ie. Olympus ME-52)

I have been using the Dragon software since its first version. Accuracy has improved dramatically. However, one still needs to complete the training and correct errors in order to improve recognition. The ability to launch programs using the microphone and perform other tasks like search the Internet are handy, but the dictation feature is undoubtedly the raison dêtre of this software. I had been dictating this review and used the phrase raison dêtre for the first time and the program got it right. I wish that I had had this program and todays computing power when I was practicing law. I know it would have increased my work productivity and relieved me of my poor typing skills.
