> 3 dayUpdate 2018-12: The PumpSpy unit didnt handle a power surge/spike so great. The unit reported the power was off properly, but then didnt report the power was restored even though it had been. It was a very short spike/outage and luckily I was home when it occurred. A simple unplug/replug of the unit reported power restored, but this would be a bit concerning if I didnt have other devices to check the power and pump state. Still overall happy with the unit and waiting for the first sump pump failure to get more info on how well it works during that. Initial: Initially, I had quite a few issues getting this setup. Being an IT person that can normally sort out these issues made it even more frustrating. But then I found the secret page three of the instructions with the manual setup steps and it went well after that. Tip, be patient waiting for the outlet to change from red/yellow to green. Says it will take a minute but actually took a few to link up and be happy! Ive attached Page 3 as an image and it can be found on the PumpSpy website with a bit of digging. Now to see how it handles issues, our pump runs continuously and typically fails every 12-18 months. Hooray natural springs under the house...

> 3 dayWe live in an area where our sump pump runs fairly often. We installed PumpSpy several months ago. It was very easy to install. We checked the pumpspy reports regularly on our cell phone. All of a sudden, it started to report a ridiculous amount of water being pumped. It was so much water reported, that we suspected that the PumpSpy unit was defective. We emailed tech support a couple of times. They responded quickly, but didnt diagnose the problem perfectly, they did give us a hint. We finally realized that there was a rock stuck in the impeller blades of the sump pump. This caused the pump to not be able to pump water, but, since it was still drawing current, and running most of the time, PumpSpy reported that it was pumping a lot of water. (PumpSpy works by measuring electricity going through it to the pump). We were able to fix the sump pump. Since PumpSpy alerted us that there was a problem, we were able to fix it. Without PumpSpy, we would not have known there was a problem until we had a massive flood.

02-04-2025Mine quit working after two years. I recently upgraded my mesh network nodes and setup a new SSID (network name) in the process. That required me to press the button on the PumpSpy in order to put it into “setup mode”. I did that and the ring around the outlet turned amber as it should. However, soon after the light went out and never came on again. It’s dead. I opened a ticket with support and explained everything. They had me email them my receipt, etc. Now, they want me to ship it back to them at my expense so they can determine if it needs repaired or replaced. They also sent me a list of things I need to include with the package. They want me to include the ticket number, but also a description of the issue I’m experiencing. And if it’s determined that the device is functioning properly, then they want me to pay for return shipping. Ummm, no thanks. How about I save us all the trouble and drop it in the trash. I’m just going to buy some water sensors for my SmartThings and call it a day.

> 3 dayAs of June 2022 I would have said not to buy but they brought back features. Background: I have 2 sump pumps in my house that run between ever 30 - 60 seconds each. This coupled with a very high amount of Iron Ocher in the ground has resulted in sump pumps dying every 6 months. They can fail in a couple different ways, always on or never on. I bought this unit because it can detect and send text messages when it detects either of these. Major issue 1. It stopped sending text messages when either of the pumps fail. I opened a ticket and they said they were looking into their carrier still nothing. * July 2022 update brought back features. Major Issue 2. After a software update they have removed any cycle history and you can only see how many its run today. I have anywhere from 1000 - 2000 a day per pump no I can only see how many as of the time I look no totals or history. I bought these because it would keep track of how much its running and save a total from previous days and I could see if there was an issue. * July 2022 update brought back features. Major issue 3. The plug socket is actually non standard and does not grip the sump pump plug which causes the plug to slip out and or spark due to poor connection. I had to manually mash the plug ends together to get it to stay in. Issues 1 and 2 are reasons for 1 star. If they fix their software I can live with issue 3 and I would rate it a 5 star.

> 3 dayI’m writing my PumpSpy review after using it for over two months now, and I’m very happy with the product capabilities, and peace of mind for my primary sump pump. Installation and use of the smart phone app (iOS in my case) was very easy if you follow the directions carefully. Be sure during installation to take time to test the alarm set and clear notifications for each of the monitored functions. PumpSpy Technical Support is only available by email, and they are very responsive in resolving issues. My original PumpSpy out of the box kept alarming on high water level even without the sensor attached, so PumpSpy sent a replacement under warranty right away, and it has been working fine. Similar to other reviews I read, I experienced issues with my WiFi network. I tried a WiFi range extender and that didn’t help either. Since PumpSpy monitors and alerts when WiFi signal is lost, I got loss of signal alerts all the time, and had to reboot my router every couple of days. I didn’t realize my WiFi network was that bad since I hadn’t been monitoring it that closely until I had PumpSpy to alert me when it wasn’t working. But then I realized other devices lost WiFi signal too when PumpSpy reported it. My solution there was to replace my old traditional WiFi router and range extender with a eero Pro 3-pack mesh router. That product is amazing, and resolved all my WiFi issues. I now have a strong WiFi signal that is almost as fast as a wired port, on each level of my home, and there have been zero interruptions. I haven’t had a PumpSpy WiFi alert since installing the eero! One thing that surprised me with the PumpSpy is how often my primary sump pump cycles. I really didn’t believe it at first until I timed it and observed it running and reporting the cycles. It runs hundreds of times a day after it rains. It’s interesting to see the cycle history to compare the cycles when it has been dry, or is raining. Overall, PumpSpy is a great product that does what it says it will do, but you might need to upgrade your WiFi, which you will also be glad you did!

> 3 dayWe finished our basement last year, and prior to that we took all the necessary steps to ensure our basement stayed dry... waterproofed the walls with a french drain, scoped all lines, replaced our sump pump and back up sump. We thought we were safe. However, our sump pump and back up has failed on us several times since (once was due to the float getting hung up and us unplugging the pump while we waited for the plumber - and then failed to check on it). Thankfully we were able to catch the overflow both times before they were severe, but we felt very fortunate that we were able to do so. To give us peace of mind, we finally invested in what we should have several years ago. I installed this myself in 10 minutes, in heels. So easy to setup. I had the outlet, water sensor, and wifi all completed and operational in no time at all. Its working flawlessly so far. I let the well fill to the point of setting off the sensor to test it and it sent me the alert immediately. Wish we wouldve purchased this years ago!

> 3 dayI have four pump spy units. Until the last update was released they were great. Now the entire history of every unit is gone. It only shows what its doing just now, no longer showing how many times pump ran, etc. It is not longer useful to us at least without that history. Dont buy unless they put the history function back. Im looking for replacements for their units now. Very poor of them to not alert anyone about this major change and then just not answer support tickets related to it (I have asked them several times about it without any response.)

> 3 dayThis may be expensive, but its worth it! I needed something to tell me when my pump was cycling on and off. This is the only product I can find. It is well worth the expensive price tag. It does exactly what it says it supposed to do and I have had zero issues so far. It is very easy to set up and very easy to navigate the software. ** One month later_ the high level alar is stuck on. Water level never got high and even without the high level sensor the alarm is still on. With the alarm on the u it will not record how many times the pump cycles. Looks like it was too good to be true***

> 3 dayInstallation is easy. Remove an outlet cover plate and plug in the pumpspy, and use the included long cover screw to keep it firmly attached. The high water float was also easy to attach. Connection to my wireless was a snap too. From my perspective the info one can get at anytime is all that is needed. You know what the current status is as well as cycle data (includes last cycle time, length, and current cycles that day. It also provides a summary by each day so you can see operation over days. As one would expect, usage mirrors rain. Biggest benefits: is if power is out, signal lost, pump quit or water level is above where pump should have come on, you get a text alert. Also, no monthly fees! The only negative I seem to have, is the first time I touch the phone app icon, I get an error message. Tap again, and Im on. Since the sump is in my crawl and we winter away, knowing that it is working etc is great. If it quits I know to call in the repairman. 4 out of 5 stars may be harsh, but 5 means perfection, and the app while close isnt.

> 3 dayI initially reviewed Pump Spy 5 stars but took down my review when they took away the software monitoring. That was not smart at all. After they received numerous complaints on Amazon they restored Pump Spy. Now I love Pump Spy again! I would even pay them $10/year for this service which I would not blame them for doing. At least they would add software features and make the product even better. Any more than this I would not be happy. Unfortunately, my guess, they now limit Pump Spy history to about 3 months. I miss my long term history. Why not make it available for download to a spreadsheet? Not the end of the World. Sure its a little tough to connect to wifi when power goes out or something like that but with patience you can figure out. Perhaps some people have problems with signal in basement - I added a cheap wifi extender to solve this issue.
