> 3 dayOverall works well. My wishlist: - Can’t seem to change the time zone to Central. Am I overlooking a setting? - It takes too long for the monitoring service to recognize a lost connection due to power failure. It should be pinging the module on five minute interval or less. - Monitoring service should be smart enough to notice anomalies in behavior, such as running much more often than usual based on past history. Or give the user the ability to set alert triggers based on certain behavior. - Should recognize short cycling or long periods of continual use

> 3 dayTried posting review under the 2.0 product listing but Amazon is limiting reviews to verified purchasers. I bought this device January 2022 and could never get it to connect with WiFi. Pumpspy support was unable to resolve issue, suggesting everything I had already tried. I returned the device through Amazon. PumpSpy said they had an updated device under development and would send me one under the beta test program when available. Well they finally sent one February 2023. It worked right out of the box, connected first try. I installed it in my crawl space and its been working flawlessly since. I have an Eero mesh wifi system and have it connected to the guest network like all my IOT devices. Couple minor issues - one is the anchor screw only works with standard outlet. My outlet is GFCI so would not work. I zip tied it to the outlet box since its mounted face down from floor joists. Two is the app has an estimated gallons count but theres no way to customize it to your pump, it just assumes one gallon per second of operation.

> 3 dayI have four pump spy units. Until the last update was released they were great. Now the entire history of every unit is gone. It only shows what its doing just now, no longer showing how many times pump ran, etc. It is not longer useful to us at least without that history. Dont buy unless they put the history function back. Im looking for replacements for their units now. Very poor of them to not alert anyone about this major change and then just not answer support tickets related to it (I have asked them several times about it without any response.)

> 3 dayThe PumpSpy Smart Outlet (PSO) is pricey, but worth the money with its promise to alert me to sump pump motor malfunction, pump jam, faulty switch, power failure, high water. My goal is to know when my primary pump fails, which means my battery-backup sump is carrying the load and I a few days to change out the primary. My PSO truly appears to solve my goal, but has only been installed for 30-days, which is too short to verify long-term performance. However, I am comforted seeing (1) pump cycles per day, (2) Cycle Length, and (3) Est. Gallons pumped. I emailed PumpSpy support to find out the metric used for Cycle Length (seconds) and what the procedure is to change WIFI equipment (push the reset button on the Smart Outlet). They responded via Email within 24-hours. The only con is Est. Gallons pumped is based on a 75-GPM pump and mine is a 50-GPM pump; therefore, my actual Est. Gallons pumped per day is 2/3 of what is reported in the app.

> 3 dayI bought one of these when I moved into my new home almost two years ago after having a very constantly active sump pump at my old house. Went to install it and discovered my sump pit was bone dry. According to my neighbors, we never get water in our pit because our neighborhood is essentially situated on a 700 foot sand hill. I ended up leaving my PumpSpy installed and on despite the fact my pump never runs. Lately it’s been saying my sump pump has been running anyways, and I can prove that’s not true because I also have a Wyze cam installed in my pit which never shows it running, and there’s still dust on the bottom of the pump from the last time I opened the pit two years ago. Yet the PumpSpy is saying it’s running. If it thinks my dormant pump is running, I wouldn’t trust it to give me accurate data if my sump was active. Piece of junk. Only thing I use it for now is to send me text messages when my WiFi goes down.

05-04-2025After reading previous reviews I felt the exact frustration the other guys who work in IT experienced. Between the semi-confusing instructions and the delayed support getting the device up and running can be very tedious. So the actual physical install of the device was simple enough; plug it in, get the water detection device in thes sump well. Getting the device to hook into the network was another issue all together. Do yourself a favor and do this: First download the app and create your account and residence in the app; now close the app Next plug in the device (the light on the socket will be red) Connect your mobile device to the network that says Pump Spy, your device will tell you it cannot connect to the internet (thats fine, youre trying to get the device to connect to the Pumpspy servers). Open a internet browser on the device and go to the url 10.10.115.1/config/scan_page_outer.html Youll see a screen with wifi networks in your area, choose your wifi and put in your wifi passcode (make sure you get this right or youll regret it). After the wifi code has been inputted youll get a black screen, wait a bit and your light should go green. Go back to the pump spy app, settings, manually add device and put in the 15 digit identifier on the side of your device. After that youre all set. So far so good with the device. Good luck!

> 3 dayStill havent installed it yet. Doesnt install or get configured with Android phone. Tech support provides instructions for configuration with computer. Couldnt get it configured even with tech support on the line. They said to login to my router, and see if router is stopping configuration. Dont see anything there. Seems like it might be somewhat set up as would get random messages about losing connection at home But when I try to add a location, wants me to reinstall. App is very slow, buggy, and a pain. Pretty much have given up. Might make another attempt, still will probably have issues once installed in my crawlspace which is even farther away from my wireless router.

> 3 dayAs of June 2022 I would have said not to buy but they brought back features. Background: I have 2 sump pumps in my house that run between ever 30 - 60 seconds each. This coupled with a very high amount of Iron Ocher in the ground has resulted in sump pumps dying every 6 months. They can fail in a couple different ways, always on or never on. I bought this unit because it can detect and send text messages when it detects either of these. Major issue 1. It stopped sending text messages when either of the pumps fail. I opened a ticket and they said they were looking into their carrier still nothing. * July 2022 update brought back features. Major Issue 2. After a software update they have removed any cycle history and you can only see how many its run today. I have anywhere from 1000 - 2000 a day per pump no I can only see how many as of the time I look no totals or history. I bought these because it would keep track of how much its running and save a total from previous days and I could see if there was an issue. * July 2022 update brought back features. Major issue 3. The plug socket is actually non standard and does not grip the sump pump plug which causes the plug to slip out and or spark due to poor connection. I had to manually mash the plug ends together to get it to stay in. Issues 1 and 2 are reasons for 1 star. If they fix their software I can live with issue 3 and I would rate it a 5 star.

> 3 dayMy situation: Years ago, I had a 14 inch flood in my finished basement. Now, I have 2 sump pits. The one in the front of the basement runs less often but I still need to know what is going on. The one in the back of the basement has high volumes of water. I have 2 1/2 horsepower Zoeller pumps. I recently replaced both Zoeller pumps. The float switches last around 10 years. But as I started to examine the conditions in the basement, I realized that I would like a little more protection and I wanted to have a better understanding of what exactly is going on down there. So, I read about this PumpSpy Smart Outlet and realized that it could be a nice addition to my system. So, I bought 2 of them. Installation: Basically, you plug in the PumpSpy Smart Outlet into an existing outlet and male pump plug into the top female receptacle on the PumpSpy Outlet. It lights up in Yellow for set-up mode. Then you download the PumpSpy Android app onto your phone, connect it to your wireless network, add the location, add the device, and once it is online the top outlet will be a green light. Not terribly difficult to set-up but you will need to follow the instructions. Results: The Android app allows me to see how frequently the pumps run, how long the pumps run in each cycle, and the approximate gallons pumped. Now I know exactly what is going on down there with the pumps. Very nice. The best feature is that you can add your cell phone number to the PumpSpy Android App and you can receive text message alerts if anything is going wrong. If your internet goes down, you will get a text message. Most importantly, if the power goes out, you will get a text message as well. This is perfect for my situation since a power outage could lead to a massive flood in a bad storm. I also invested in the PumpSpy Battery Backup solution for the front of the basement which works off of the cellular network (not wireless). I will be adding a third Zoeller pump and it will also be using a PumpSpy Smart Outlet. How my system will work? The power goes out, I get a text message from PumpSpy. In a rain storm, the battery backup systems will last for 5-10 hours. I am installing a back-up generator, an inlet on the outside of my house, and an interlock device on my electrical panel. I get home and fire up the generator and my basement stays dry. The PumpSpy Smart Outlets are an integral part of my system that will allow me to make decisions based on the weather conditions. Love this product. UPDATE: i received a text message tonight from the PumpSpy Outlet: Excessive Motor Runtime. I checked the app and it looks like the pump motor was running continuously. Checked the pumps and the main pump was running but the water was NOT pumping out of the pit. I unplugged the main pump, checked outside and it turns out that the discharge pipe froze. I cut the excess pipe and used a heat gun to melt the ice inside the pipe. Plugged in the main pump and then it pumped and drained the pit. The PumpSpy App text message feature probably just saved me $300 because I never would have known that the pump was running continuously and it would have burned up eventually.

> 3 dayUpdate 2018-12: The PumpSpy unit didnt handle a power surge/spike so great. The unit reported the power was off properly, but then didnt report the power was restored even though it had been. It was a very short spike/outage and luckily I was home when it occurred. A simple unplug/replug of the unit reported power restored, but this would be a bit concerning if I didnt have other devices to check the power and pump state. Still overall happy with the unit and waiting for the first sump pump failure to get more info on how well it works during that. Initial: Initially, I had quite a few issues getting this setup. Being an IT person that can normally sort out these issues made it even more frustrating. But then I found the secret page three of the instructions with the manual setup steps and it went well after that. Tip, be patient waiting for the outlet to change from red/yellow to green. Says it will take a minute but actually took a few to link up and be happy! Ive attached Page 3 as an image and it can be found on the PumpSpy website with a bit of digging. Now to see how it handles issues, our pump runs continuously and typically fails every 12-18 months. Hooray natural springs under the house...
