I like the concept, however, the installation was a bit clunky. They certainly have room to improve the installation process. I would have given 5 stars if the application was a bit better and if the installation process worked more seamlessly.

Setup in 5 minutes per directions. Will send direct phone notifications and sms. Only thing negative is it must use 2.4 ghz wifi (not compatible with 5.1 ghz) however 2.4 ghz works better at longer distances and through walls or across floors. Wifi signal is strong even though my router is on 1st floor and unit placed in basement. Monitors power, high water level float sensor, sump cycles and time sump on per day, and even estimates gallons pumped out per cycle and total per day. Can monitor multiple pumpspy sensors at multiple locations as well. Running app on android. 3 years later the unit has been solid. For example today halfway through tropical storm Ida, weve pumped out 700 gallons so far, with the main sump running every 8 seconds (thanks Pumpspy)! Note I would still recommend a hydrostatic backup sump pump (requires no power). During a prior storm with flooding we lost power. Pumpspy notified me immediately. Power was down for 8 hours, and the hydrostatic pump saved us.

I don’t ever write reviews, but I have to for this product. I have a very active sump pump during heavy rains and then a couple days afterwards. Knowing that my pump is function while I’m away is by far one of the most stressful times for me. After having a pump fail and not know about it until it did thousands of dollars of damage, I had to find a fix. I bought the pump spy along with a battery backup pump. We just received a 2 3/4” downpour that lasted about a half hour. My pump spy was the first thing I checked as I was not home during this rain. As I write this review, pump spy has shown that my pump has cycled 68 times taking 841 gallons of water out of my pit. Is averaging about 12 gallons per cycle. If there is one product out there that is worth the money, it is THIS!!

Installation is easy. Remove an outlet cover plate and plug in the pumpspy, and use the included long cover screw to keep it firmly attached. The high water float was also easy to attach. Connection to my wireless was a snap too. From my perspective the info one can get at anytime is all that is needed. You know what the current status is as well as cycle data (includes last cycle time, length, and current cycles that day. It also provides a summary by each day so you can see operation over days. As one would expect, usage mirrors rain. Biggest benefits: is if power is out, signal lost, pump quit or water level is above where pump should have come on, you get a text alert. Also, no monthly fees! The only negative I seem to have, is the first time I touch the phone app icon, I get an error message. Tap again, and Im on. Since the sump is in my crawl and we winter away, knowing that it is working etc is great. If it quits I know to call in the repairman. 4 out of 5 stars may be harsh, but 5 means perfection, and the app while close isnt.

Wow - this product is just awesome. We recently had our main and backup sump pump fail while I was at work causing some major damage to our basement. We knew about a much more expensive sump systems with similar capabilities as the PumpSpy PSO1000. Once I replaced my main and backup sump pump we decided to give this product a try. I am super happy about it. Setup: Super easy, if you have a smart phone and a good quality router it couldnt be easier. Installing the water sensor is very easy as well, just make sure if you have a main and a backup put the float between the two floats. App: What a great design for an app. I love how you can track the cycles your pump is on and it gives you a good estimate of the amount of water being pumped out each day. I tested the alerts an they work great. You will get a notification through the app as well as optional text alerts to the set phone numbers you desire. Overall, very pleased with the product. Only flaw that I saw was my backup AC charger was too bulky/large and it would not stay plugged into this outlet, which is fine, because I plugged that into a different circuit breaker.

I love the functionality of this and, when it works, its great. The app was screwing up recently and tech support let me know it wasnt me and they were working on it. Thats all fine now. BUT, I keep seeing that my sump pump has 3 second runs between the normal 20 second runs. Ive been seeing this for about 6 months. Happens once or twice a day. I put in a new sump pump and, to my shock, started getting the same 3 second run notices. Not possible that 2 pumps by different manufacturers are each having these short runs. The Tech support guy thinks its a fairly weak wifi signal ~ 60db thats causing this. I suppose Id need to add an extender to test that. Otherwise, great product!

My situation: Years ago, I had a 14 inch flood in my finished basement. Now, I have 2 sump pits. The one in the front of the basement runs less often but I still need to know what is going on. The one in the back of the basement has high volumes of water. I have 2 1/2 horsepower Zoeller pumps. I recently replaced both Zoeller pumps. The float switches last around 10 years. But as I started to examine the conditions in the basement, I realized that I would like a little more protection and I wanted to have a better understanding of what exactly is going on down there. So, I read about this PumpSpy Smart Outlet and realized that it could be a nice addition to my system. So, I bought 2 of them. Installation: Basically, you plug in the PumpSpy Smart Outlet into an existing outlet and male pump plug into the top female receptacle on the PumpSpy Outlet. It lights up in Yellow for set-up mode. Then you download the PumpSpy Android app onto your phone, connect it to your wireless network, add the location, add the device, and once it is online the top outlet will be a green light. Not terribly difficult to set-up but you will need to follow the instructions. Results: The Android app allows me to see how frequently the pumps run, how long the pumps run in each cycle, and the approximate gallons pumped. Now I know exactly what is going on down there with the pumps. Very nice. The best feature is that you can add your cell phone number to the PumpSpy Android App and you can receive text message alerts if anything is going wrong. If your internet goes down, you will get a text message. Most importantly, if the power goes out, you will get a text message as well. This is perfect for my situation since a power outage could lead to a massive flood in a bad storm. I also invested in the PumpSpy Battery Backup solution for the front of the basement which works off of the cellular network (not wireless). I will be adding a third Zoeller pump and it will also be using a PumpSpy Smart Outlet. How my system will work? The power goes out, I get a text message from PumpSpy. In a rain storm, the battery backup systems will last for 5-10 hours. I am installing a back-up generator, an inlet on the outside of my house, and an interlock device on my electrical panel. I get home and fire up the generator and my basement stays dry. The PumpSpy Smart Outlets are an integral part of my system that will allow me to make decisions based on the weather conditions. Love this product. UPDATE: i received a text message tonight from the PumpSpy Outlet: Excessive Motor Runtime. I checked the app and it looks like the pump motor was running continuously. Checked the pumps and the main pump was running but the water was NOT pumping out of the pit. I unplugged the main pump, checked outside and it turns out that the discharge pipe froze. I cut the excess pipe and used a heat gun to melt the ice inside the pipe. Plugged in the main pump and then it pumped and drained the pit. The PumpSpy App text message feature probably just saved me $300 because I never would have known that the pump was running continuously and it would have burned up eventually.

Update: 7/1/2022 - The cycle history has been restored in the latest app update so changing my rating and would go back to definitely recommending PumpSpy. I have used a PumpSpy for the last 3 years and up until a week ago, I would have recommended it to anyone. It has saved my basement from having water in it more than once. The feature that saved me from having water was the Cycle History. I could watch trends in real-time to see when my pump was running, how long it needed to run, estimated gallons of water it pumped, and total cycles for the day. I could also look at history from previous days and use that data to see if the cycles were getting more frequent or if they were getting further apart to indicate the water table was dropping. PumpSpy removed most of the functionality from the app on 6/3/2022. I can no longer see each time the pump runs, estimated gallons, or data from the previous day. Now it only tells you the number of runs for today and the last time it ran. You cannot see how much time elapsed between runs or an estimated number of gallons removed. With those key features being removed, I can no longer recommend this product. For the price, it is not worth the purchase if those features are not restored in the next app update. For me personally, it no longer has any of the functions that I originally purchased the PumpSpy product for and I have never experienced a company release such a useful product and then remove features after the purchase to cripple its functionality.

I had a lot of problems trying to install this. It would not work on my phone (Samsun S8) using the app and not the manual mode either (through a web browser). I was able to install it with my tablet (Samsung TabA) not successful with the app, but did work with the browser mode. But even then i was not able to complete the installation fully. I was getting an error that my outlet serial number was not registered. After some help from the customer support they got it registered. Now the device is registered its still not working. The outlet is not reporting any information through the app. As of writing this review its 6/12/2022, last i heard from customer support was 5/18/2022. Additionally i bought this on 4/14/2022. And this thing wasnt working right and they assured me the device had 3 yrs warranty and that it would get addressed. My original plan was to return it within the Amazon return window but thats long gone. Now were stuck with $160 outlet with a green light. 8/19/2022 Update Back in July PumpSpy ended up agreeing to exchange out the smart outlet with a new one. I got the new one and it installed much easier than the original (mostly). However, there was still one more issue with the installation that wasnt going through until I was able to get a hold of customer support. Additionally the APP was generally not working. When trying to switch between the pages on the app, it would simply not load. After getting things mostly resolved with tech support I continued to have issues. Even after re-installing the app on my phone I had some issues with the pumpspy app showing pump information. The way i was able to resolve this was to clear the cache and the data for the app. So far everything seems to be working as described. However, Ive not tried to simulate a trigger for the level sensor or pump running too long. Im going to bump this up to a 3 star. Well see if the pumpspy continues to work as advertised. But the extended issues with the device and the app need improvement and the shear time it took to get resolved. The tech support person was very friendly, its the same person every time, so I think there is only one. I suspect hes overwhelmed. Update 10/26. Back in August, i tried to set the alerts to make sure i would get them. The alert I was most interested in was that i get an alert if the pump is stuck on. In some email traffic with tech support it was said that this device had the functionality (turns out it doesnt, more on that later). During this test of plugging in the pump to the outlet something malfunctioned and i was no longer seeing cycles. After some more back and forth, long delays/wait between communications. I got my 3rd pump outlet. Seems to be working ok for now. Pumpspy did show some good faith and own that the functionality of notifying for a pump stuck on was incorrect. In summary, it seems like a great product with a lot of frustrations. Its a small company with some qwirks to iron out. I hope they continue to roll out new functionality via updates (such as pump stuck on). Overall, im 50/50 on if Id buy it again.

I bought two of these to put on my sump pumps in the basement. They dont work half the time, and even when they do work the information they provide is inadequate. I really wanted these to work, but I feel like a sucker for owning two $160 wall outlets. Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere for your needs.
