Cinch ring feature is nice for many applications. Buyer needs to allow extra length allowing for chain used securing both the cinch end and the lock end.

Chello, I have recently purchased this 5 chain for security of my motorcycle. Im not exactly in a high risk area like I was in L.A. but I dont trust people when it comes to my personal property. I tested the hardness of this chain myself as you can see in the photo. It was difficult to get a perfect reading due to the coating on the steel. However, after several attempts, I think my test is in the ballpark. I called Schlage and after several minutes of waiting for the rep to investigate what I was asking, (What is the HRC) she said she finally found someone who knew. According to her it is HRC 62. I said thats very high, and she said thats what she was told, turns out she was correct! So this is a bad a** chain for the money, the only ones harder are Pewag and Laclede. Im getting the smaller one as well.

This is a heavy duty chain. Im using it to secure a gas generator to a shed and more than enough length to secure. Because the chain is mounted in the back of the shed and under the generator, using a bolt cutter or grinder would not be impossible, but highly unlikely. I would recommend this product for this application. This is heavy so I wouldnt want to carry this around or use on a bike, but a motorcycle with storage bin would work.

I bought two of the 39 chains for locking up a generator and plate compactor. I figured I needed 4-5 chains, but the cinch ring design of the Schlage frees up a lot of wasted, looped length. I combined the chains with Stanley CD8820 padlocks (50mm version). For the generator, the shackle was just *barely* tall enough to close with two links of the Schlage chain through it (the cinch end wrapped around a deck post, the other end wrapped around the generator frame). On the plate compactor, I didnt have enough chain length to loop through it, so I had hoped to lock the last link directly to its lift bar. Unfortunately, that bar is ever so slightly thicker than the chain links and I couldnt close the shackle, so I had to go with a longer, less secure Master Lock I had laying around. So, keep that in mind when sizing locks to the thickness of the chain. These chains are likely to deter most thieves, just based on appearance, let alone the heat treating. I doubt they would try bolt cutters on them. Ill be doing some metal reinforcements of the deck posts to keep them from being the weak link to cut through. Someone would have to want the stuff real bad to bother with an angle grinder. Highly recommended product! I might get one of the 59 chains for the trailer next, although thatll be a tough reach.

Cinch ring doubles the effective working length. Will defeat all but the most serious bike thieves.

Now this is a Chain! I guess someone could maybe get trough this thing but it aint worth the time or energy, or the plasma cutter it would take. This thing is incredibly strong! Couple this with a forged lock and feel pretty darn good that your bike/Cycle will be there when you return. Schlage continues to live up to its name with this product. Threw this into my backpack and my wife uses it for resistance training lol. Yeah its that heavy duty.

So these are HEAVY chains. Surprisingly heavy. I really do think they are probably overkill in this 12mm size for most purposes, but for what they are, they are nice. The cinch ring is really a great idea, giving you more length with less chain. I got them to secure some very expensive mountain bikes if they need to be left reasonably unattended. They could steal the vehicle easier than they could get through these chains. They are also annoying, in that they are unwieldy and a pain to actually use due to their size and weight. Unless you are SURE you need this level of security, I really think I would consider going down to like 8mm, but you cant go wrong with these Schlage chains (which I have heard are the mfg for Kryptonite chains as well).

This product is an effective product. The product does not give you any slack. Its so thick that by the time you wrap one end around your motorcycle wheel, you have used a foot, and by the time you wrap the other end around a stationary object, you will need to be up against the stationary object. Using it the way I describe, you will need two sturdy locks which will cost another fifty bucks at least. In other words, the products relatively short length of five feet restricts the versatility of the product. Kryptonite makes a floor locking mechanism which would work well with this product. It cost seventy bucks and it requires some skill to install it in concrete securely. There is a good YouTube on how to install it, which I think is posted by the manufacturer on the amazon site.

Bought this for the ability to loop one end. The chain is heavy duty. Hopefully it will at a minimum deter theft, and at a maximum not be easy to cut with bolt cutters if attempted . . . .

High Security or Heavy Duty does not adequately describe this chain. I bought the 5 version so that I could run it through a couple of the holes in the body of my car at the back of the inside of my trunk (at the corner where the cross-member is that supports to the top of the back seat). The cinch design was essential for this. Now the chain reaches a few feet out in my trunk, and I can lock all sorts of things to it (like my high-security brief case or any lock box, etc.). It wont stop every thief, but it will definitely slow them down. In fact, if a thief does somehow steal anything, Im fairly certain they wont do it by cutting this chain. Im attaching photos showing how Im using the chain in my trunk.
