Schlage 12mm Cinch Ring Security Chain (No Lock)

If a thief wants something bad enough, he’ll be prepared enough to get past any security so I look at this as a theft deterrent but a darn great one! A thief is going to look for the weakest place of entry & this chain ain’t it. I combined it with a super high quality lock with a low, well protected shackle, giving no room for bolt cutters. I have a long & shorter version of this chain & love the cinch ring - it works great for my purposes. I watched demos online of people trying bolt cutters on it & it passed the test easily. I used to cut rebar way back when with high quality bolt cutters & this chain would be a female dog to cut! If a thief wants it he’ll have to torch it off.

Holy crap this thing is huge. Definitely not something for a bicycle ride... Maybe a motorcycle or leaving at home to lock overnight. I bet you could lock your whatever in the worst neighborhood in Russia and they wouldnt touch this chain. The week link would be the lock or whatever your locking it to. I have returned it due to its weight and size. I have no use for this as its just too much security and not light enough to bike with.

Holy Cow! I read the specs on this chain but did not fully appreciate the heft of it until it arrived. We have had our kayaks stolen twice from our dock and decided enough was enough. We added this chain (and a couple of cable locks) to them and just the appearance of it is enough to ward away the bad guys. No problem putting very large padlocks through the chain -- the links are enormous. The cinch/loop link at one end means you only need a lock on one end, although for maximum usage of the full length you may want to use locks on both ends. Five feet sounds long, but it gets short once you wrap it around a post. I will try to remember to update this review after a few months to describe the chains ability to withstand the elements since it is sitting on a dock on a saltwater river.

I was about to buy an expensive bike chain with lock when my housemate reminded me that I already have a u-lock. Of course, all I need is the chain. I use my u-lock while riding around town and use this chain to lock my bike up in the garage for extra security. The chain can stay put since its quite heavy.

This is a review for the Schlage 999461 chain with cinch ring. This is a very nice heavy duty chain that can be used to secure bikes to a car bike rack. The internal chain link opening is 19.8mm (0.779 inches). The heavy duty chain arrived with a nice nylon sleeve on about half the chain, leaving 6 links exposed. To protect my bikes, I stretched a part of a Mountain Bike inner tube 26 x 2.1-2.5 over the exposed links, adding a zip tie on the end to prevent it from slipping. At the last link, I cut a hole in the inner tube to allow my Onguard Brute U-lock to pass through. Now, I can securely lock my bikes to my car bike rack in a higher crime area.

This is a heavy chain. Seems long enough for many applications. Another few inches would have been my preference but I believe it is sized on the metric system. I will use this only on certain rides and destinations and possibly combine it with other precautions. There is always a way for someone to get through any lock with the right tools and enough time. It will suit my needs just fine I am sure.

Dont cheap out, this chain is worth the investment. I use this is my bike chain with a good boron shackle lock; heavy as hell, but I just wear it like a sash. I wish it had a velcro strap at both ends of the sleeve instead of just the cinch end, but I understand the design decision.

This chain is beefy! Love it. My only regret is that I did not get one that is a foot longer (that is my fault of course). Update - still love this chain. It stays perm. attached to my bike rack and I lock up my pricy mtn bike when I have to leave it on my car. The lock would be the weak part of my system, however, most crimes are crimes of opportunity and it is not easy, they wont bother.

After having my storage unit broken in to 2 times I purchased this chain Kept thieves away. I saw attempted hack saw marks and bolt cutter marks that barely scratched the metal. I use it in combination with a very durable shrouded lock.

Sturdiest heavy duty chain I’ve ever seen! It’s awesome! Very heavy, but totally worth the money! If you need security, buy this chain!
