Schlage 12mm Cinch Ring Security Chain (No Lock)

This security chain is massive and heavy. I bought this to secure items at our RV when we are away from camp. Nothing is theft proof, but this chain will require them to spend a lot of time and make a lot of noise. And noise will wake up my two guard dogs, Smith and Wesson. Their bark is almost as bad as their bite!!! The chain is triple heat treated, 1/2 inch hexagonal sided links, and is made with manganese steel. The hexagonal links thwart bolt cutters as well as the extra strength from heat treating. And manganese steel is resistant to abrasive cutoff wheels. It can be cut, but time and speed are a thieves enemy (along with my two dogs, Smith and Wesson).

Its holding strong and secure.

After researching bicycle locks, chain reviews and bike theft videos, being on my 4th bike, living in NYC. Im happy to own this chain now. Its not too heavy, its what is needed to prevent it from being able to get clipped. Plus I got some exercise being able to do some bicep curls after unwrapping it. Along with the chain I got the Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 Bicycle Disc Bike Lock and feel my bicycles safe. Of course its important also where exactly and how to lock the bike. Theres still the seat and front wheel to consider. Perhaps another U-lock for the front-wheel.

This is a HEFTY chain. I have not tried to break it - check review sites. Any chain will succumb to a cut-off grinder but I suspect this will dissuade anyone with less.

I am usimg it to secure a generator to a ground anchor. The way it loops around so you only have to lock onr end of the chain is a great idea. Plus this allows you to use the full length and not have to double it up to lock something. An additional feature I like is it comes with a nylon cover so it will not sctatch the crap out of what is is secured to.

If a thief wants something bad enough, he’ll be prepared enough to get past any security so I look at this as a theft deterrent but a darn great one! A thief is going to look for the weakest place of entry & this chain ain’t it. I combined it with a super high quality lock with a low, well protected shackle, giving no room for bolt cutters. I have a long & shorter version of this chain & love the cinch ring - it works great for my purposes. I watched demos online of people trying bolt cutters on it & it passed the test easily. I used to cut rebar way back when with high quality bolt cutters & this chain would be a female dog to cut! If a thief wants it he’ll have to torch it off.

It works fine for my purpose, though in my head, 5 was longer than it is in reality. I measured, and the chain is actually 5. Its a heavy chain and feels solid. Gives me peace of mind, and makes it easier to lock up my motorcycle at home. Wouldnt be real great to lug around town because of how heavy it is, but you could definitely do that. Its more expensive than I think it should be, but go try and find a better deal (tell me if you do!).

Used this chain to secure my spare tire/rim in the bed of my truck. The sheath is really thick therefore, it wont rub through or cause damage to my rim. The chain is 1/2 thick and gives me peace of mind when my truck is parked. The chain is really heavy duty and I recommend it for anything that you are trying to secure. Especially if your into overkill security. 10/10

The Schlage was MUCH HEAVIER than my Kryptonite 12 mm chain! Schlage measures from edge-to-edge, while Kryptonite is 12 mm from vertex-to-vertex!
